Hi all my 96 spi sprite rebuild is coming along nicely.

It's needs a new ecu (or the old one sent to ATP to have immobilser decoded)

It currently has a Mne101050
I have been offered a
Mne101070 that has had the immobilser function removed

The question is will this work in my mini ?

Thanks
Paul

if it is a genuine MNE101070 then yes as they were used on the Cooper Spi's. I've bought one for my 94 Spi Sprite from a forum member as it has slightly different mapping compared to the standard Spi ECU

no problem ! It should also have a slightly richer mixture for acceleration purposes

More info on Sprockets post here http://www.theminifo...the-difference/

Well, I am not Sprocket and he is really the Guru on SPI injection. But what I have learned along the way is that the MNE101070 was used on Cooper engines with and without an immobiliser, like in the case of the my Japanese Cooper. The factory wiring diagram shows the (white with red tracer wire) crank position on the ignition switch going to the alarm/immobiliser and from there it goes (white with purple tracer wire) to the starter relay. So for that type of immobiliser only the cranking function is inhibited. You should be able to bump start the car. Apparently, if the car has no alarm there is a substitute box that basically connects the two wires together so the engine can be cranked. There is no connection between the alarm and the ECU.

Also per Sprocket, the ECU's with the "11" in the middle of the number are the ones coded and those are the ones that need the matched set of ECU, alarm and fobs.
I have not found in the wiring diagrams the electrical path used between the immobiliser and the ECU for the ECU to receive the its code from the alarm. I would not be surprised that the information was not made available due to security reasons.

Thanks for the in depth reply.

The issue with the mini is it was stolen a few years ago with the keys and the recovery agent lost the keys (the only set). I've put a new barrelll and lock set in and it's starts with no fob
But before it was stolen the immobilser was faulty, it would not kick in for a few weeks and then would suddenly work.

So my problem is if I keep driving it as is one day it will immobilse I'll be stranded.

I'm torn between getting a new immobilser free ecu or sending mine to ATP for them to decode the immobilser function.

Then try getting a coded ecu, alarm ecu and the fobs.

I assume it'll just be plug and play?

Is the MNE101050 the original ECU of the car? If it is, then it is unlocked. There is no connection between the ECU an the alarm. The alarm immboliser only disables the starter relay. There is no point on getting the MNE101070 unless you want it for better performance.

If it is an MNE101150 then that makes a difference. It is coded. Then your back to your original options. If you decide to go with the MNE101070 make sure that it is in good shape before you buy it.

Thanks will do. Any ideas who would have a complete set for sale?
