Hello
Basically I am just starting my complete rebuild project which is including a full respray, I am getting the exterior done proffessionally but the inside I'm going to do myself and previously the floor has been covered in Schultz, can I spray over this ? Or will I need to take it off first ?
Cheers guys

hi i have just restored my mini and have given the entire under car 3 coats of schultz (for protection) then painted over in body colour no problem , the only draw back is the schultz stays soft so can be scratched off easily while reassembling the car as i found out :ohno: ,but no problem with the paint over the top .

You can't paint over schultz (well you can but it's not going to come out well).

You can paint over stonechip - which is usually applied with a schultz/schutz gun.

Are you sure that what's inside is schultz? I would have thought it would make a horrible mess on the back of the carpet. Minis were mostly fitted with bitumen sound deadening pads in the floorpans - you can paint over these.

Stealth05 - Coversills are a bad idea and I bet you'll be replacing them again 2 years max unless it never comes out of the garage. Very foolish shortcut.

sorry my bad didnt realise you were doing the inside ,its a no for interior even with out being painted over

as for oversills , cheers guys but the past owner had fitted these while restoring it before he passed away with cancer , the old outer sills had been removed before these were fitted and all rust cut out and bare metal treated :X

The previous owner told me the underneath was painted with Schultz an just took out the carpet and was no sound deadening or anything just straight to metal and looks exactly same as underneath so I'm guessing its the same stuff, what would you recommend I do ? Or shall I just put more Schultz over it

sounds like its just standard under seal , personally on interior i would remove it with petrol on a rag then paint in hamerite or similar .

People can get confused with what is what as it is all sprayed from the same type of gun which is a Shultz gun the best way to check what you have is try scrapping a small amount off if it is soft and tacky then it is underseal/Shultz but on the inside I highly doubt it. If you find it hard to scrape off and is rock solid and dry then it is most likely stonechip and most can be painted over if you are still undue about painting it do a test patch under the rear bench and leave it for a couple of days and wait for a reaction then check for its durability ie did the paint harden fully and not remain soft. From your description and the fact it is on the inside I would say its stonechip as this can be used for anti drumming on the inside

Get a pic up so we can see

Use a heat gun gently and scrape most of it off, then use white spirit for the rest. Wear some disposable paper overalls or clothes you don't mind binning as it is a horrible job and impossible to do without making a mess.
