...not sure...had new sills fitted...wasn't told they were over sills, although he did say they were the wide ones that extend further under the floor. Could that be the problem? If so I would appreciate any info about the possible problem

Yer sorry to say wider sills are over sills I'm afraid, basically they have no vents to which the water can't escape when it's trapped in the box section of the sill, when it fills up enough it will finds its way into the car, it's still only a theory and maybe not the cause.
Some say to drill holes where the vents should be, however others view this as another hole for moisture to get in and get trapped in the seam further down and rust your floor etc.
Probably worth just pulling up the carpets in that area and checking out the condition, if still no clue use a hose on it to find the source
Does it only happen when it's raining?

Cheers. Yep only when raining. The body shop I use are usually very good, but I suspect they have put over sills on now. Am taking it in today...soooo...if they drill drain holes what else can they do to make sure I don't get excessive rust later on?
Or would it be better to get a weeee bit annoyed and ask them to remove the over sills and put standard sills on?

Once the holes are drilled spray loads of this up there

And on any panels i.e. inside your wings and boot floor underside spray this

Or buy both!

...well...the 'man' at the body shop will be doing that lol ...am just a wee bit concerned that over sills will bring about more problems further long the line. Would it be worth just getting them cut off and standard sills fitted?
.....arrrgh...everything was going so well!! :-(
Had mine for 10 years and just getting a spruce up...took my eye off the 'sill' ball and now it just ends up being complicated
As an aside...anyone any thoughts on getting Sportspack arches frenched in?

If you have the money I would get normal ones fitted! Bit of a piss take though - the body shop guy should of known that!
Dont blend the arches
filler will crack and look rubbish!

Are you able to post some pics of sills outside and a pic inside under the carpets?

Check the drain holes in the bottom of the doors, and that the plastic seal over the door behind the door card is intact. If it gets removed you might see water coming out below the door card when it's wet!

OK...quick report back. My 'man' had a good look around, inside, outside and all over basically. He's a perfectionist which is good.
Found water tracking in and down into both rear bins inside of the wheel arches, through rust and corrosion and the holes for the arches. The space under the plastic bins were filling up and the water, then running through corrosion and seal gaps around the base of the metal bins where they join the floor pan. Then the water was running down the internal floor pan channels and filling the front foot wells.
The over sills are actually ok. Old ones have been taken off and the over sills put on and sealed but going to camera check them with a couple of small holes and then deal with whatever is found. If nothing then sealed again. The insides have all been treated and coated with various layers of 'stuff' and the cavities will be filled.
Happy to trust him...his work us usually very, very good it was just trying to track down the bloody water leaks...
However, I am now also on the look out for a couple of decent doors. Pref in Tahiti Blue but not overly fussed and with side impact bars...so anything from a post '97 Cooper. Or any suggestions of decent replacements would be gratefully accepted.
Just cuts down on labour, as if can't get them he will need to re skin and rebuild the base and interior gubbins...
Can't post pics...car is at body shop...but will do when I visit next week and get some 'before work' pics.
Many thanks for all suggestions so far...it has all helped in getting to the crux of the matter.
Doors?...over to you ladies and gents...
PS...can't wait until everything is done...it will look lovely.
PPS...yep...decided against 'frenching' in...only needs an almost blind Cambridge geriatric driver, of which there are too many, to clip an arch and it will be knackered.
