Hi all

Yesterday I noticed a lot of water in the passenger footwell. I pulled up all the carpets and dried it all out and found what seems to be the leak has been bodged with some sort of tape (see pic). I was just wondering how to repair it.

Thanks

I have that tape on mine, under it is the studs that hold the subframe on. The tape is used in a few places, looks very standard Rover tape. I doubt much water would come past the studs and into the footwell.

Must be dripping maybe the windscreen seal, door check seal, air vent or somewhere. Its good to remove all carpet and have someone hose the car down while you are inside it with a torch to check where its dripping in.

windscreen seal in my opinion, wont come in when driving but will when parked as the water sits on the corner off the seals and comes through if they are old or persished

Tape is definately something standard, my old one had it, here's a pic of its stripped out interior, so you can see where water may come from

a) Windscreen
b) Air vent holes - are they covered?

Doors are a pain in the ass too, I'd get someone to take a hose to your car while the carpets are out and you inside to see where it is coming from, then get new seals etc as needed :D

Ah so that tapes meant to be there. My car was bodged by the last owner to get it to pass the MOT and I thought that he attempted to cover up the leaks with tape. I''ll hose it down and try to find the hole, It seems to leak while driving

Thanks for your help so far

Found it. It was the heater element. water was dripping off that and soaking the carpets. Thank god it wasn't the dreaded rust :proud:

Hi...I'm having the same problem, but having real problems tracing where it comes in. I'm getting a lake in the passenger footwell when it rains and the car is stood. After investigating even more it appears to come in from under the crossmember...but how the bloomin' blinkin' 'eck can that be?

Any advice will be very much appreciated

It's a 97 mpi...tahiti blue cooper...just in case that starts any alarm bells ringing :-)
