Following all of the news about the thefts - can anyone recommend a good wheel clamp?

There you go, quick bit of googling threw up a few, prices look like they range with quality. How sturdy you want it to be will depend on how much you want to spend by the looks of it.

These are a good idea. Put the car in gear and it lock the gearstick and handbrake in place making a lot harder to steal and good for when using public car parks.

The problem with those is that they are completely reliant on how secure the gear knob is. On a classic mini all you have to do is unscrew the gear knob and you can lift the whole thing straight off!! A mate of mine had one of them on an old fiesta once, he was horrified that I could get it off quicker by unscrewing the gear knob, than he could by faffing around with the key in the lock.

Thanks for that - I did a Google too, but wondered whether any mini owners had good experience of using a specific one.

We used to have these but stopped for this reason :)

I thought an actual wheel clamp might be better as that's what the police have suggested.

A wheel clamp would be pretty good, especially if its a decent quality one, as they're not gonna go far with one wheel stuck!

The only problem is that if its being stolen to order or something , is that there not gong to brake a window and drive off there going to lift it on to a flat bed.

But if someone does no of a decent wheel clamp that will fit on a 10" wheel then I would still buy one as a deterrent to the joy riders

I guess the best that we can hope for is that they will make some noise so will be spotted. Just thought it will slow them down / cause inconvenience...

The only real (£££) option is a tracker thats well (hidden) installed and has a battery backup if they cut the power line.

Even then if they put the car in a container it can block the signal...

The gear stick ones normally come with glue in the box. You glue the gearknob in place with it.

One way to make it rather difficult to steal is to bolt it to the ground, that's make it very difficult to even lift it onto a truck.

Aim is not to make it unstealable, just difficult enough to put them off.

Trackers are cheap now. This one is £40 and works on a Pay As You Go sim so no subscriptions.

At least you then have a chance of getting it back.
