Thanks for the explanation. Mines an '84 shell but I'm thinking of drilling a hole in the back seat. Do you have any photos of the front and back body to spit mounts?

Cheers chris

I'll have a look for some photos but I should be working at the moment. >_<

Forgot to mention that the scaffold pole wasn't connected to the body/pole brackets directly. I found two short sections of pipe that fitted fairly snugly over the scaffold pole. These two sections were welded to the brackets that bolted to the shell. The scaffold pole slid through these two sleeves and was locked in place with a couple of bolts. This enabled me to support the shell on blocks and simply slide out the scaffold pole while leaving the body brackets in place. As long as both your body/pole brackets were either in front or behind the bulkheads I think you could still remove the pole without this sleeve arrangement.

Thanks the photos. Vat free at machine Mart on Sunday so I'll be getting the welder then.

If you buy a mig welder, locate a Adams Gas dealer and get a bottle of gas as it works out much cheaper than buying the small disposible bottles. They charge a bottle deposit and then about £40 a fill. I used 1 fill to weld a whole new boot floor, drivers front and rear floor, and passenger front floor and rear floor in a landrover discovery.
