Its an engine project in a mini, whats the difference?
Zetec engines are great, fitting it in the front of a mini could be a challenge. The diff's are rather large so need clearance.
This then leads to frontal issues. what front are you looking at? Round nose, extended, clubby?

If you go to the trouble you may aswell get hold of the 1.6 version. They are very revvy and use a close ratio box. There will be a few around as they get ripped out to put the puma 1.7 in. I have seen an escort RST engine in the back of a mini before but i bet it was a challenge! If you have dispossable cash go for it if not stick to the tried and tested!

The reason I believe they take out the 1.6 and replace with the 1.7 is that 1.6 are rubbish bottom ends.

Massive gearbox and diff, there is far better conversions out there for far less money. Have a look around and take a visit to 16v Mini Forum and you'll be convinced by Honda, Vauxhall or Rover in no time... save a lot of money, and still end up with more power. (And a standard length roundnose and minimal baulkhead mods if you're clever.).

I waas thinking of a 1.4 16v corsa sport motor but not sure if it would fit under a standard roundnose with the inner wings in place but with a little bit of a nip tuck here and there. Really need to find a corsa sport and measure up and probably crack out the pipe bender to make a subframe.

A C16XE and X14XE will fit under a standard roundnose which is what a Corsa sport comes with depending on the year I think? I'm not big on Corsas so I'm unsure. MPi Radiator should keep it cool enough for road use and an Allspeed or similar frame. I think Mini master cylinders block the inlet manifold (which also needs to be changed for a different one of modified) so you'd need a custom pedal box too (something like OBP). There are far more knowledgeable people than me in Vauxhall conversions though, just head over to the engine conversion boards on here and I'm sure there will be people willing to answer your questions.
