I've got a set of twin Keihins from a Triumph Acclaim to fit to the '79 Civic. It's a bolt-on modification, but that would be just too easy wouldn't it?

I want to rig up a cold air scavenge and there's nothing available off the shelf which will fit anything like as well as the original filter housing. So, modify it was.

Plus the Acclaim's has a wee Honda 'H' stamped into it's intake!

The first thing was to re-site the intake directly onto the side. The original position had it sprouting straight off the corner to take a feed from behind the headlamp. I want to take a feed from the wiper motor channel instead. I am, of course, retaining the warm air pickup for cold starting. So, the bends had to be taken out of the elbow, the base replaced to accommodate it's new position and the aperture in the housing re-sited.

Butt-welding partially completed on the housing body and offered up to the rebuilt carbs. The clips round the back will need to be moved.

There were over 20 spot welds holding the intake in it's original position so there was a lot of grinding and linishing to be done! As you can see, the butt-welds are being flushed right back. The object is to have it powder coated in the period grey and not later black. I'm hoping that only spotters and those 'in the know' will be able to tell it's not original!

More pics will follow!

More pics!

More welding and linishing to the housing. The clips have been moved. The asymmetry in the aperture is deliberate to accommodate the new intake. Of course, lots more work to be done!

More work done to the intake.

I use a dusting of red oxide priner just like a guide coat so I've got a pretty good idea how level the surface is. On the whole it's not too bad.

I need to get my arse in gear and get this finished. I've been picking away at it in between bigger jobs, but I need the carb off the '79 for the '78 from whence it originally came! I'm getting the '78 ready for the NEC in November.
