I finished a full restoration about 3 weeks ago and have been using it as my daily since to make sure there are no issues with the car what so ever. I have done somewhere in the region of 400 miles in the car already.
Over the last year the car has had the following work:
- New front wings, front panel and a panels
- Full exterior & under-bonnet respray
- All relevent welding completed (which really wasn't much atall)
- New brakes all round
- Front subframe removed, reconditioned and replaced with new bushes, top & bottom arm pins & track rod ends.
- Hi-Los all round
- New solid brake lines throughout
- New carpets & dash liners
- Very clean 90's Mini seats
- 52k mile 998cc engine from Austin Metro (still have dials and pictures of removal to prove)
- RC40 exhaust (sounds nice but still quiet)
- Original windows all round with numberplate etched in, apart from new laminated windscreen
It drives just as expected for a newly restored car, the engine pulls very well for a 998cc, seems to have nearly as much torque as my 1275 Mini 35 I used to own. It can more than keep up with modern traffic and can cruise quite nicely at 60-65mph on the motorway.
I have also painted the sills, under arches & rear subframe in a rust-proofing paint simply to give it a fighting chance again the nasty salty road we have - this car has been built to be driven all day everyday.
Took the car to the MiniWorld Action Day where many people complemented the car on how clean & tidy it is. Although it is not a concours show car it is a very tidy little Mini that needs for nothing at all. The only negative is that the laquer on the polished lips of the wheels has started to go milky (as all MWS wheels seem to do!)
Comes with a New MOT & tax till end of Feb
Any inspections welcome, test drive with relevant insurance only but I am more than happy to take you for a drive if this isn't possible.
