Wrestling has less staging than this series....................................

They went to all the trouble of removing the sunroof from the MGB (with minimal detail of how the guy went about it)

Thats because they removed the MGB sunroof by swapping the car /bodyshell part way through filming.....

Confirmed now it seems by Channel 5.........so the MGB GT is an illegal 'ringer' swapping the 1975 ID onto an older secondhand chrome bumper bodyshell in far better condition?!

From Pistonheads forum:
Just found this posted on the TV headed thread following the same arguements as this thread.
Proves the point but raises more questions as well.

Update on the MBG being 2 or even 3 different cars, I sent channel 5 questions which I don't have a copy of but along the lines of confirming if indeed the car was the same as the wreck "rescued " from the barn and about the validity of the 2 week restoration claim. This was the reply I recieved:
Dear David

Thank you for your recent enquiry regarding Classic Car Rescue.

While the production team were filming in Canada, the mechanics in London discovered some serious problems with the MGB, midway through the restoration, which meant they felt it might not be entirely safe to drive. Their original plan was to buy a new chassis, which is a common way that people restore MGBs (you can buy an entire new monocoque chassis for just £1000) and build on top of that. But wanting to stick with used parts, they bought another car and used the chassis from that, transferring much of the first MGB, right down to door-handles, and windows. The cost of the second car was included in the figures mentioned and the end result was a combination of the two.

The programme aims to show how Bernie Fineman and Mario Pacione cope with restoration jobs with a “tight deadline and an even tighter budget” in an entertaining fashion while also giving some background into why each selected model is held in the high regard that it is. It is not intended to, and does not claim to, demonstrate the detailed effort and finance that can go into the high end restoration of classic cars.

Nevertheless, this does not diminish the validity of your opinions and we are grateful to you for taking the time to make us aware of your concerns. Your comments have been logged in our Viewer Enquiries Report. This is circulated throughout the company and seen by all relevant personnel.

Thank you for your interest in Channel 5.

Yours sincerely

Ian

The MGB episode has been pulled off of Demand 5, I wonder why. Perhaps they've don't want the eveidence of ringing an MGB to be broadcast anymore.

PS Can't wait to see all the comments about Nitromorsing the Mustang bonnet.

Lol.... I bet the auction house are back peddling a little, rather quickly, and possibly having a talk with their legal department...

Not something I would want to be associated with, wonder is the dvla and vosa will get involved ?

I don't know what's more entertaining - watching the 'show' or reading the comments on here afterwards! Both provide some light relief.

Surely whether they've created a "ringer" or not will depend on what ID they use on the prizewinning car. Switching number plates for a TV show is not an offence, it happens all the time.

No, but if they only used the monocoque from the earlier car, then there is not enough of it to retain its original identity, and likewise there is not enough of the original car to use that identity either...

It would need to be Q plated and to do that go through one of the vosa test BIVA/IVA/SVA which ever appropriate.

The reg on the finished green 1975 MGB GT is KRC 741P but it is still listed below as yellow, the colour of the second bodyshell used....as seen around the bonnet/hatch shuts before the respray.
Of course for a higher valuation and if you are going to break the rules anyway.........it would have made much more sense to use the earlier V5/reg of the chrome bumper bodyshell, especially if it was pre-'73 and therefore tax-exempt!

DVLA Vehicle enquiry

The enquiry is complete.
The vehicle details for KRC 741P are:
Date of Liability 01 07 2013
Date of First Registration 01 08 1975
Year of Manufacture 1975
Cylinder Capacity (cc) 1798cc
CO2 Emissions Not Available
Fuel Type PETROL
Export Marker N
Vehicle Status SORN Not Due
Vehicle Colour YELLOW
Vehicle Type Approval Not Available
Vehicle Excise Duty rate for vehicle
6 Months Rate £121.00
12 Months Rate £220.00

Not sure if this has been mentioned yet and I have missed it, but according to Wikipedia they will be doing a Mini Cooper in one of the last two shows of the series...
