Found the dreaded rust today, removed the passenger wing to see what i was up against and its no where near as bad as i was expecting, just in the usual areas...

this looks great man, the story of how you got it is brilliant too, get her sorted out and back to her former glory! early metros are slowly getting teh respect they deserve.

and im affraid i couldnt resist getting a pic of mine on here, so here it is!

the headlights are dependent on the model. the MG and turbo along with the hls and hle had these flat fronted ones with orange winkers in the ends, i think all the others had the sunken ones.

respect for early metros is growing, and about time too. however, when i went to combe last week the guy on the gates said "thats not a mini" i replied, its got more mini parts in it than the BMW mini in the queue behind me!

dont get me wrong, most things that are beige are not exactly cool (hearing aids, nhs specs and Y-fronts), but you do have to consider that its the correct colour for cars of this age/era. in the same way that java green was late 70s, harvest gold early 70s, and colours like surf blue and almond green 60s.

there is a great mk1 metro on ebay at the minute, but as its a very late one on a B reg, and being in bright white it just doesnt look retro at all, it looks very much like a mk2, which for me isnt the point. if you know what i mean? period colours make it cool.

Possibly swapping this for another mk1 metro of the same year, but engineless and better condition, but it will look identical to this 1 when done including B16 engine ;)

I now have the new rolling shell, gave it a quick look over, generally its very good, few bits of bodywork need attention, front panel needs a patch, rear end had a shunt at some point (few creases to sort out) but spot on for what i want it for

Paint work is like this all over after a wipe down...
