I'm doing a retro style dash board, ie the centre binnacle but want a rev counter infront of the steering wheel, I've seen a few Mk1's with a Smiths style rev-counter thats mounted on a metal plate that goes from the upper dash rail to the lower, is this a fabricated part or are they 'buyable'?

Thanks

Noah

I think you mean the "works" style dash's Like below, and I think you can buy them but I would just measure up and make one, very easy to make and then buy some black crackle paint if you want that classic finish :)

Nope, wasn't that. It was a bit like the speedwell extra dials.

Probably not what you meant but, I've mounted a Smiths 80mm tacho in a Speedwell pod on the lower dash rail of our Mk3 S. Works well and looks the part, I reckon :D

Here's the pod as you'd buy it, (if you can find one)

I've got one of those chrome pods, then I made a bracket to fit it so that the dial was inline with the steering column :)
The smiths rev counter matches the centre speedo perfectly :)

It's not from a car mate, you can get them as an accessory. Got mine off ebay a few years back but, Minispares sell them.

They just have a standard type gauge bulb holder that pushes into the back, so I guess if you can find LEDs to fit it can be any colour you want.

The bulb is very tiny in the rev counter, I doubt an led would be bright enough ( as it does not have a wide angle), I wanted an led but had to stick with the standard bulb :)
