Today we have launched our new range of sound installation products and I thought it would be good to let everyone know in more detail about our new (extended) range of speaker pods. As we have added AP pods to our range, simply because over he past 6 months or so we have had an increasing number of people requesting AP speaker pods.
We offer a range of AP (aperiodic) and sealed speaker pods for 4” (10cm), 5” (13cm), 6.5” (17cm) or 6”x9” speakers, in a range of carpet or vinyl leatherette coverings.
AP Speaker Pods: £39.99
AP speaker pods (also known as aperiodic enclosures) are for those of you who are seeking the ultimate in car entertainment install.
AP pods channel sound waves created by the back of the speaker cone into the listening environment through a membrane, creating the illusion of a large enclosure. A majority of after-market speakers are designed to replace standard manufacturer speakers, installed in door panels which have large enclosures. So, by creating the illusion that the pod is bigger than it actually is AP pods produce a better quality of all round sound (better high, mid and low) and are louder than sealed pods.
However, AP pods can only be installed in locations that allow the pods to breathe and a gap of at least 25mm is required behind the pod. In addition to this, if you are installing speakers that are designed to produce high pitched sounds (such as 4" speakers) AP pods will not work effectively (in comparison to sealed pods).
To summarise, AP pods give you a louder, high quality all round sound and will generate better mid to low notes (in comparison with sealed pods), but - on the downside they can only be installed in locations that allow airflow through the membrane hole on the base.
Sealed Speaker Pods: from £24.99
Sealed speaker pods are ideal for those of you who are looking to install speakers into your vehicle easily and economically.
Sealed pods produce tight high notes because they do not allow the sound waves created by the back of the speaker cone to escape from the pod. This means sealed pods have excellent power handling capabilities, which makes them ideal for speakers designed to produce high notes (such as 4" speakers).
However, sealed pods do not allow the speaker motor to cool down. In addition to this, if you are installing speakers that are designed to produce mid to low notes (such as 5" and 6.5" speakers) sealed pods can sound 'tinny' (in comparison to AP pods).
To summarise, sealed pods will produce a perfectly adequate sound and can be installed on any flat surface within the vehicle, but if you are seeking a high quality ICE install please consider researching AP pods.
In addition to speaker pods the range also includes:
Speaker Boxes from £29.99 Speaker
Enclosure Pods from £19.99
Speaker Spacers from £11.99
Subwoofer Boxes from £34.99
Subwoofer Spacers from £14.99

I hope people take them up and sales are good, as it truly is a product that will take mini audio forward.
As you know I have thought about producing a range of them myself but I have little free time, and you have the production skills to make is commercial. They do look awesome.
By the way I did my mini world shoot today, you are on my thank you list

Would it be possible to make them with some kind of spacer/leg to provide the air gap required and cover the gap with accousitc carpet to hide the gap. Just thinking about ease of mounting on a flatish surface like the wheel arch.

Great stuff Andy, the AP pods look great.

Yeah me to - as I said above the reason for releasing them is simply because people have been requesting them, so now they are available I can't see people not going for the AP version.
(And brilliant - thanks for the mention I shall look forward to seeing the feature).
Nice to see some thought going into the function as opposed to just looks and making them as cheap as possible, good work.

In preparation for the possibility of being asked that exact question we already have speaker pods on stilts under development - now that the question has been asked we will push ahead with them and add them to the range ASAP.
Alternatively, we also have Classic Mini under dash rail speaker pods coming out and they will be available in open backed (just like the ones currently available from Custom Consoles), sealed and AP versions.
However, in order for them to work within the space we have had to make compromise and the enclosure & vent is smaller than ideal. There is unfortunately nothing we can do about that (working within the dimensions available have left us with no other options) and the AP dash rail pods version will be (despite the compromises) the best sounding "Classic Mini specific" speaker pods on the market.
We hope to launch them within the next 2/3 weeks.
Thanks

Raised AP Speaker Pods
Due to popular demand we have also added a range of raised AP speaker pods to our standard AP speaker pod range. These raised AP pods have an extra section built onto the back of the standard pod which allows the membrane to breath, even if the pod is installed on a flat surface. Solving the problem of how and where to mount a set of AP speaker pods.
