Hay chris211083. Never used any other gasket than the copper ones. But have you re torqued the head down? Also wouldn't you change the oil and filter after the r/r. It normally gets a good bashing in the r/r than on the normal highway.

You want new oil and filter for the rolling road as the engine does get a bashing. Old oil protects less, new oil gives more hp too!!!

Anyway I've changed the Head Gasket and All seems well again. I went for the expensive 998 over bore performance one from minispares, also fitted new water pump and silicone top hose while it was apart. Will let you know how I get on, Running in is finished now, will do a compression test tomorrow just to check all are about the same and then it's off to the Rolling Road next month for the final mapping and we shall see where this little engine makes it's power and how high it likes to rev too.

Chris.

No mate i wont let it take too long as i do want to see what power it makes. Not only that but it needs mapping properly on a RR to get the most from the efi setup. There is more mpg to be had.

I have found that the copper gaskets seem to work better on my 998

Well the wife crashed the mini in the wet last night. Big bummer but fingers crossed the insurance will fix it.

She hit a barrier so front sub frame should be ok but still fingers crossed.

Oh no, hope she's ok and doesn't put her off the mini. Wonder what it'll cost to get it back on the road again.

Its my fault. I told her to get better tyres as the current ones are cheap and nasty. Should have kept pressuring her to get them as we really were not going fast. We were on the way back from Asda with shopping including eggs but non broke! She is fine and just feels a bit daft but still loves the mini. So if they write it off we will buy it back and fix it or buy another and transfer the bits. We were getting over 50mpg and its not even mapped properly yet. She really love this car and would not want any other type of car. She is 5'3 so it fits her perfectly. Will keep this updated as it happens.

Glad she and the eggs are ok, that's was good mpg you were getting there. As for tyres, yok a539 are the only ones I'll use and can't recommend them enought.

I know what you mean I have A539's on my spitfire and they are great in the dry and the wet. They also wear at a slow rate too. Will be a first thing to do when we find out whats happening.

Current options!!!! I think it will be a rightoff. So buy it back and.......

1. Find a Mini Minus shell......Build up the car into the minus shell.

OR

2.Buy another car needing an engine, interior etc Must be Tax exempt car or a 1974 car because as of april next year 1974 cars become tax exempt. Then swap engine/box and efi over and give it a tart up.

We have the inspection guy coming today so will see what he says. I'll add photo's in a second.

Chris.

The Front

Starter motor took a shunt but all works ok.

And the alternator, I think the poly quick release mounts took the most of the hit with the three steadies(two gearbox and on normal top).

Flared arches anyone.

20130823_141940_zpsef69f8e8.jpg

Door catches and doesn't latch without a good bit of force so the body tub is not the same shape where it use to be.

More flared arches.

A good ripple here.

Will see what they say and what they value the car at.
