OK engine arrived today and it looks very nice indeed.

Just waiting on some more bits to arrive and then I'll swap the motors over. Not long now.

Chris.

Hey Chris. My 1380 engine with sc throttle body kit (45mm) made 103bhp. Over 95 torques.

Well pleased. :)

Thats good mate, bet it goes well. Knew it would be over 100bhp. Ha Ha.

Still waiting for weather to get better so I can change the wife's engine over. Can't wait and it will also be going in for body work soon too.

Chris.

Started to change over the engine today. Almost got the old engine out before the sun went down. Will finish fitting the engine tomorrow and hope to map it enough to be able to run it in. I also fitted a tacho and a little gadget to make the tacho read right off the coil pack. I also picked up a late style heater/blower, it has two speeds and is made from plastic and will eliminate the metalic rattle at certain rev's. Here are some pic's:

Will post more tomorrow.

Ok so the next day i finished clearing out the old engine from the engine bay and started to transfer the bits from one engine to the other.

Posted Image

Then i fitted the trigger wheel and the new aux belt setup.

Posted Image

Once it was all changed over i fitted the new rad and plonked it back in.

Posted Image

Time had flown past and the engine was in but couldnt be run as the alternator pully was too small. Minispeed are sending out the correct one but that was it for the day.

Posted Image

So jobs left to do are fit alternator pulley, then the alternator. Replace heater and pipes and finally run it up then fill with coolant.

job done. Will let you know when more happens.

I'll be interested to know what power this makes. Where did you get it mapped?

Well we had problems with the pulley for the alternator. First the hole in the middle was to small then the spacing of the pulley was wrong. However after removing a couple of chunks from here and there the setup is now in the car. Next job was to install the late model heater. This was easy as it bolts up to the same place as the orignial but the pipes are bigger and the demister vents are larger too. So to change the vents It was a dash out job.

While the Dash was out I decided to Dynamatt the inside of the dash and also the top bulkhead of the engine bay.

Here are the two windscreen demister vents.

Difference is easy to see but boy does it blow much better than before. So engines in and has been run for 5 mins at 2,500rpm as instructed and now I need to go and map the car.

Will let you know more once its run in at 1200miles.

I mapped it myself with a wideband O2 sensor LC1. I then took it to a rolling road in Falkirk for them to check it over. However the new engine will be mapped by me and then taken to a guy in wales. £300 fully mapped to maximise the engines potential as you have to have a rolling road to get ignition perfect.

chris211083. I like seeing this kit on different types of engines to see how it gets on. I'm sure you'll be happy with you new motor.

Minilover1.3. Just wondering what your torque curve is like through the lower rpm range with your setup. Nice and flat! I'm running a 266 cam with a standard size valve head which is slightly ported on a 1310 and would to get it to 90/90 ft-pounds/bhp

Also not sure if anyone else has found this but the R/R I used found max power was slightly up when the throttle was at 85% open and not flat open!

Yep i found it pulls better at 85% throttle. I also found it gave more torque at lower revs at full throttle with an fuel ratio of 12-11 a/f ratio. Some things are just strange but to be honest i rarely use over 70% throttle anyway.

Well the Engine is almost run in now. Its running nice but a bit lumpy on idle. It revvs very nice but it needs setting up on the dyno. So will be booking it in once ive dropped the oil and changed the filter again. I also might have a problem with the head gasket. Its been weeping water a touch at the front.

Question is are the copper gaskets better or are the silver fibre ones??? Whats the best quality head gasketavailable on the market. Do payen do one for the 998 engines and will they be ok with +60thou pistons???

Chris.
