To see how i got into rallying just look on page 4 of this build thread.....its in my blood. My first memory is watching Group B rally cars in the early 80's go through Clocaenog Forest near Rhuthin....might be a bit before your time so google 6R4's and 205 T16's.
And yes i've got a licence...needed one to do the even we just did and won the class...check out the link below for my review and pic's.

As for flintshire being local.....thats where i'm from.....Northop.....know it??? Heaps of night rallies round the lanes of north wales too....does that mean some fellow mini owners will come out and support us??? Quite funny really as one of your members of your club (Dean) is an old mate of mine (known him since i was very young) and he lives down the road from my father. Small world eh?

I'll be taking a look at this, Congratulation, is this your first win? This is something that i'd really like to get into.
Thats fantastic, I live in a little village just outside of Holywell, so Northop is just down the A55, in fact I was at Northop collage today watching the BSJA show jumping. if you are about please pop down and attend our monthly meet, first Thursday of the month, at the Britt in Halkyn. We had our first meet last week and it was a great sucsess.
If you join the group and post when your events are we could get a gathering to come out and cheer you on, I love taking photos of cars (i'm not very good) that could be some great practice.

Thats fantastic, those cars were before my time unfortunatly but I sure know of them, I mean how couldn't you know about them?

Well I live over near macclesfield now so attending meets would be a problem for me unless i'm back visiting the folks.
We do alot of events in north wales though so will keep you informed.

Managed to bag some bargain tyres from ebay, so i'm now the proud owner of some Maxsport RB1's.
Vedict.....they're not the rally version so don't have the reinforced sidewall....but the tread pattern is very impressive and offers heaps of grip. Time will tell what they are like on a proper rally but on the snow they are miles better than normal road tyres. Very soft compound so not too sure how long they'll last on tarmac, but hey ho!
Gave the clubbie and the new tyres a quick test on the local lanes and found some mini sized drifts!!!! Some fools in an astra and golf had blocked the road because they abandoned their cars so had to go back on myself.
Then got given the universal 'slow down' sign by some useless Ranger Rover driver so i replied with a 'Victory' salute. It really annoy's me that they think just because they own an over priced 4x4 that they and they alone own the roads in conditions like this. My car is light and nimble and on proper tyres....your's is heavy and over complicated and on tarmac tyres...you slow down and get out of my way fat boy.....mini coming through!!!!
RANT OVER.......

For mini sized tyres, it's either Maxsport or a company in Finland called Black Rocket Tyres.....there is an importer in Wales i think but they are expensive so not even bothered considering them....but the tread design is more mainstream gravel tyre compared to the RB1.
Another option is Kingpin....they do a 12 inch tyre but i've tried them and they foul the inner arch as the profile is more like 80 rather than 70.
For the time being i'm sticking with Maxsport as they are currently available new. You may pick up Colways on ebay, but they'll more than likely be 10" and ex grass track tyres so probably well used.
Hope everyone else is enjoying the snow as much as me!!!!
