Question was.....How can I get this resolved with it being bank holiday Monday?

Answer......a bit of back yard hill billy tech...........

Take one drill, put it in a vice, add a stud and a washer and nut.........  If you squint, looks like a lathe right???

P8310020_zpsfizj2gfw.jpg

.......oh and an accurate tickle with a grinder!!!!!

P8310017_zpsq4tatfr3.jpg

Double check for fit in the back of the wheel with a bit of tape this time rather than paint..........(still showing it's not sitting flat...bit more of a tickle with the grinder needed)

P8310021_zps5h1udom6.jpg

After in the foreground, before in the rear............not bad eh??

Only one side was causing grief, but figured i'd better do both to reduce any risk of failure and give the wheel a better chance of seating on the drive flange correctly......

All back on the car, any wobbles now long gone.....problem solved!!!!!

Next on the list of things to sort was the steering wheel.  The one in the car has bent out of shape and although not a huge issue, but seeing as I had a nice mountney wheel that a mouse had munched away at the leather some years ago, I thought i'd use my upholstery skills and transform it into a suede rally wheel like the one in my other car.

Start with an wheel that had it's leather munched by a mouse so I pealed it.......

P8180344_zpssrfm4zyf.jpg

Take a bit of leather and get it machined into a loop, add a bit of contact adhesive, some sharp scissors, and a super sharp blade.....If not grown up enough, get an adult to help you!!!!!

P9010028_zpscyb5ithl.jpg

Stretch the loop of leather over the rim of the wheel - this has to be TIGHT as if it's a bit baggy, you'll be chasing 'fullness' of leather when you wrap it round to the inside.

P8310026_zpsx0sljaam.jpg

And 'just like that'.......a suede (ish!!!! suede isn't inside out leather, but this will do as a first bash to see if it actually works) rally retro wheel ready to go........

P9010027_zpskfjgwpgs.jpg

Should loose a bit of it's fluffiness with use, but will offer a fair bit more grip than the super slippy vinyl (and bent) one currently in place.

For a working rally car Dave, that's a mighty good looking machine!

Cheers Keith, but in all honesty that photo is flattering the little car somewhat......up close it is not so good.....hence wanting to fully strip it and paint it....etc etc etc.

I am going to have to make a decision at some point though - I have got a rather rusty, but still rescue able 1968 mk2 mini sat patiently waiting.......

Plan A - Weld up and restore the mk2 and then move all bits over from the clubman and continue rallying with a round nose whilst I sort the clubman shell.

Plan B - Just restore the mk2 and then sort the clubman out with no swapping of bits.

Plan C -  Stop using the clubman as a rally car (don't kill me for suggesting this!) and restore it........boring!

Plan D -  Build the mk2 into a wild* stage car!!!!!!!!      *as wild as you can go with historic rallying :shifty:

Plan E - Realise I've got no money to do any of this and just relax over the winter...............boring!!!!!

Oh and whilst any of the above are happening, I'm going to become a dad (10 days to go!!!!) and need to finish building an engine for the Ibiza (so i'm not busy in any way!!!)

haha, that's brilliant, many congratulations Dave & Mrs Dave (sorry, don't know Mrs D's name!) I did have a sneaking suspicion when you said in an earlier post that you'd soon divulge the reason she stopped navving for you! Excellent news, but there may now need to be a plan F;

Plan F - Realise that you will now have no money over the next 21+ winters, summers, springs & autumns and just relax & enjoy what you have. You'll soon get used to it.... :D !!

Oh, then there's Plan G - become Grandparents after those 21+ years & realise that you'll now have no money for the rest of your life..!! It's all good fun though & I wouldn't have changed a thing. Maybe....!!

Many congrats again!!

Keith

Many congrats Dave... Now I understand why you have a new 'passenger!' Whatever you choose to do with the Clubman and mk2 I'm sure it will be fab and no doubt the new addition of the family will want a 'rally' mini to play with in the future. Well done!!

Cheers and I do hope so!!!!  I've got to be honest....they're not going to have a choice as we are a rallying family now!  I think the sooner I get the cars built to how I want them the better as i'm banking on not having a lot of free time as soon as they become more active and attention sapping.  Funnily enough, if you do the maths, we did have baby on board on the Tour of Cheshire so the little un has already done his first event....ha ha.
