Hi, not been on the forum for ages, so really enjoyed catching up on your thread. Engine looks really good, would be interesting to see what it produces on a rolling road?

If it stays running long enough...ha ha.

To be honest, i'm having issues with the clutch not letting me engage gears (air in system) and all with only 3 days until a rally!!!!  My shakedown time might be the trip over to wales on the way to scrutineering!!!!

Same as we had on Epynt Dave - we were worried at first it was a new clutch job, but just ended up having to change the clutch slave & master cylinders - & for once it only took about 5 minutes to fully bleed the system! (getting the pedal clevis pin out & a new one back in took rather longer though!!)

Got  a new slave cylinder sat here just in case but i think i solved it late last night with a syringe and some clear tube. There was some air in the slave that wouldn't bleed so forced it out.  Will know for definate in about 10 minutes if i was successful as 11pm was a bit late to start my engine up last night!!!

2014 can now officially go down as a mini disaster.

After all my hard work and careful prep, the one (well one of two actually) thing that i outsourced has come back to bite my where it hurts!!!!

Exhaust valve stuck in valve guide and said hello to the piston resulting in one twisted valve and a piston with a neat little valve imprint in it.

Think i'm pulling entry on rally - GUTTED.

I feel your pain, I started with a primary gear issue that highlighted a potential flywheel issue. Whilst it was all in bits I found a gearbox issue and then after finally getting if back together and back in I've now got an oil pressure problem that I never had before I started!!

Engine back out and in bits again.....

Luckily for me, my next event is November!

Just one thing after another isn't it - I now understand why people get other people to fix their cars....you just give it back and say 'fix it'.

That's a real bugger Dave. But if you outsourced it I guess you can in that case at least send it back for them to fix as you say? Not really good enough though, especially as you now have a damaged piston & the possible loss of your entry fee to cover as well...

Gonna try and fit a spare head and still do the rally!!!  The piston is only slightly damaged and if it goes pop then so be it.  Got the rest of today and tomorrow morning to get it running and make a decision. The CoC of the rally has been very understanding and will give me a refund if i'm not successful.  But you are right, it isn't good enough.

Cheers guys...was ready to throw a hammer at the bloody thing last night. Amazing what a sleepless night, a morning at work and a few cups of tea can inspire you to achieve.

I got it up to a decent temperature and torqued the head down again so fingers crossed i'll take it for a long test drive tomorrow morning and discover no issues. If i do, then so be it, but at least i tried.
