Been a while since i've updated this....probably because i've not done an awful lot and it took me over a month to get round to cleaning the car after the last rally....oooops!!!  Show and shine i ain't!!!!

Been asked by my motorclub to organise a scatter rally so been out a few times in the mini plotting clues around cheshire, north staffs moors and derbyshire.  Found some fantastic roads and would love to blat down them at competition speeds....but was daylight and had to behave!!!! (most of the time!!!)

Was out today and took this shot of a swan eyeing up my car.....not too sure what he/she thought, but either they wanted to get it 'on' with my car or they are just a fan of hurricane grey!!! Either way...funny pic

Also got an entry on the Tour of Cheshire again this year - so got a list of things to do on the run up to that and will have plenty of updates coming.  Radius arms need replacing, a new squeek from the O/S front needs investigating (might be a wheel bearing on its way out), and general running a spanner over the car is needed to check for whats rattled loose. Also the dash has developed an annoying rattle/vibration which if i don't solve before the event, I honestly think I will put my boot through it half way round the rally!!!! Want to make a second fuel tank to feed the thirsty carbs and get a new cap for the existing tank as I seem to leave a trail of V Power everwhere I go once fully filled up.

Autosolo next weekend might be a goer too

Sounds like you need to stop "swanning around" and get cracking on prep for the TOC!
Can't believe it is almost a year since I went to their Rally School and my car is still not finished, but we are making progress if only slowly.

Good luck on the Cheshire and Hope you get out on the autosolo, they sound interesting!

yup i'll be attending....with the mini.  I've been asked to prep the car to fail scrutineering to give you guys an idea of what not to do.  Nothing major, just silly things people do and don't realise the danger.

At the moment the car is on axel stands with no hubs waiting for me to finish the wheel bearings so fingers crossed the rebuild goes well....already lost a few bits though!!!.

Look a few posts higher than the video and there is a full review of the rally with photo's.

We finished 35th O/A and 6th in class.  But that doesn't really do our efforts justice and I actually put in an appeal at the finish.  When a road is blocked by a burning car and you can't pass it is apparently tough that you had to go the wrong way to avoid it!!!!

Tour of Cheshire rally is 2 weeks away and been doing odd bits on the car, and fabricating a few bits that will be installed as and when I get time.  For the rally I will keep the car at its current spec as I hate adding any new bits without testing them for a few weeks before an event.....better to be safe than retired on a rally.

Wheel bearings all sorted and keeping the wheels straight and true. Below is a photo of the new Timken ones (left) next to the knackered pattern ones (right).

The nearside hub side had the inner seal spacer in, whereas the o/s didn't. I've read that this spacer is deemed unnecessary and deleted from production on later cars - but when fitting the side that had it, I felt it offered the perfect solution for spacing the seal (funnily enough that is its function), and seeing as i couldn't get one in time (as is always the case) I decided to make one.

Rollers and a bit of file action and I got the fabricated spacer to within 0.03mm of the correct 8.51mm width....not bad and will do the job....and I get a kick from making stuff - i'm just weird that way!

Also had the 'twisted' tyre (see a couple of pages back) stripped to see what (if anything) was wrong with it and discovered this....

tyrefault_zps8eed2689.jpg

Had a bit of a poke at this lump and could feel metal, so I think the carcass' that Maxsport are using are not up to scratch and causing this, and the problem before. Have taken it back to Demon Tweeks for them to have a look at and send back to Maxsport....looks like i'll get another tyre though as it's clearly a fault...and Demon Tweeks have fought my corner previously so fingers crossed.  I know Tweeks get a bit of a hammering on forums for being expensive (blah blah), but their customer service is fantastic and because of this I will continue to use them again and again and would recommend to anyone.
