Hi mate, just asked a guy i know and he's said its down to either a genuine defect or the way there stored, with them being stacked up on top of each other sidewall to sidewall the bottom tyre of the pile gets a fair bit of weight on it and when used its usability is weakened (not his exact words but you should get the genral understanding haha)

They haven't been stacked...this is straight off the car.

No he said from factory, they can get piled up and the bottom ones suffer on the side walls from the weight, dont ask me i know nothing of this myself haha but he works at a garage were they do all this stuff so best info i could help with really

Oh right....I thought you meant me stacking them...now i'm with ya!  To be honest it could be any number of things as they are remoulds. Plus I bet this size isn't popular so they are made in limited numbers so manufacturing faults are a higher percentage....or i could just be talking B.S.

Might have a look at getting hold of some of those new Yoko winter tyres and give them a bash instead.

had a tire off a starlet do the same, the high side wall and hitting a pothole or a curb with  a bit of speed will do that! lovely car, nice to see a build that wont ever be a trailer queen!

I might have hit a pothole on the last rally but would have thought i'd have felt this wheel wobbling.....either way a complaint is goin in!!!

Trailer queen is one thing i will never be.......for two very good reasons.....I hate all the bitching that goes on at shows and the show 'scene'.....and secondly....I don't own a trailer....ha ha!!!  If I crash the car, i'm walking home!!!!

Love this car!! Not only does it look the dogs but you rag the dogs off it top work fella

Cheers fella...only reason I bought the car was to give it a good thrashing!  Most people would polish the paint to a high sheen and buff everthing....life is way too short for that behaviour!  Rallying is a true way to test a car.....see if mine breaks this weekend!!!!!

With no offense to anybody else's threads on here. But this one is brilliant. I enjoy reading this one. Fantastic looking car being used properly :)

A photo from early on...before things hotted up!!!

First selective over Moel Arthur had a couple of cheeky NAM's testing the mini's ground clearance from the off.

Second selective was 50 miles long!!!!  and after a missed slot early on we dropped 10 minutes putting it right and then kept the foot down until we came across a flickering orange glow.  Blocking our way was a car doing an impression of a bonfire.  As soon as i saw the shape I recognised the car as a SEAT Ibiza.  We'd been chatting to the crew at petrol and at the start venue and I knew the nav from a previous event too so was relieved to see them both out of the car walking around on phones to the Fire service.

*******I can't stress enough that if anyone reading this is thinking of building a car for rallying, please carry a fire extinguisher and do everything possible to make the car safe and please build it properly!!!!!  I'm not saying the crew of the Ibiza did anything wrong (they didn't),  this was purely an accident involving a ruptured petrol tank or filler neck (they can't tell from the left over wreckage!!) but it could have been real nasty.....so build a car safe peeps!!!!*****************

Anyhoo....this blockage meant we had to cut a section out...missing 3 route checks and the iTC that had become a bonfire!  This meant we picked up 4 fails so essentially ruined chances of any class win.....or so I thought!

The rest of the night went really well, with the mini hammering it along the tight and twisty welsh lanes - even catching a few cars up!!!  Some of the whites were mega rough and we had to pick our route carefully to avoid mini swallowing holes!! The car did take a few heavy hits and I was concerned (after recent failures) that the tyres might give up after such impacts but the car (and tyres) held strong and we made our way to the finish at 07.30 (we started our first competative section at 00.35!!!).  7 hours and 160 miles later, it was time for an awesome breakfast!!!!!!!!!!

If it wasn't for the 4 fail's we would have finished 1st novice crew.  We did put in a query but the CoC decided it was a case of 'Force Majeure' (whatever that BS means) and therefore the section could not be scrubbed...gutted!!!  The toys went well and truely out of the pram.....but after a walk in the car park and a chat to the nav of the bonfire car (and a look at the wreckage - now on a recovery truck) I kinda thought it is just one of those things and maybe next time luck will favour us.

We still picked up an award though....First mixed crew and the Impulse group Trophy.  We also should have won First historic, but only 1 award allowed.

35th overall and 6th in Novice class.  Not bad for our first 'proper' welsh event....and a beast of an event too!!!

Great result again Dave, but only 1 award allowed? That's a bit naff - if you're actually the crew that wins any award you deserve to get it, I wouldn't be happy if I was second historic to have been given the winners award ...!!

Shame about that poor Ibiza too - not that many left now - but at least the crew were OK, always the most important thing....

Great pics again, those wheels really suit the car too - they'd look brilliant in orange!!

keith

edit - is that the Ibiza in the far background of your first pic - another Kiwi Green one??

Yeh thats the one.....was a really nice car.  Couldn't believe how fire can damage a car so much.  It was so hot the glass melted ito a puddle in the doors and the compomotives on the back melted!!!!!!!!!  They also scraped the tank guard off the road and it was alloy too!!!!!  I was going to send you a picture joking that it was your old car and we'd had a mishap....but that would be bad khama and not really a joking matter!!!!

Dave ... well done finishing, on what looked a tough but great route on map 116. Managed to take photos in two locations and do a bit of marshalling as well!

Excellent pic's Rob.....dare I say better than the official ones too!!!!

I was wondering who it was on that white taking pic's....now I know...ha ha.  Doesn't look as rough in the photo though. :goaway:  Maybe it just feels worse in a mini!

Was a superb route and the mini flew down the lanes.  The lack of weight really does matter when comparing it to my other weapon (the Ibiza) as the change of direction is instant in a mini.

Dave ... beleive it or not ... that white used to be a yellow many, many years ago when I started rallying. It still has tarmac under all that mud and rocks!

Cheers Si.  Yes it was very good to be back in the mini and everything working just so.....also very satisfying to overtake modern cars and show them that a 70's car can still compete.  Ground clearance was a struggle at some points but the main thing is the exhaust stayed put!!!  And thanks to the farm yard NAM's the car stinks of cow 5h1t.

We are at 5.30 or there abouts.

Some funny bits dotted about through the video so worth watching right the way through if you are bored.
