UPDATE TIME.
Tyre was sent back to Demon Tweeks (they arranged courier...superb service yet again) and they sent it back to Maxsport for analysis. They said it had had a hard impact, but the peeps at Tweeks argued my case and a brand spanking RB1 now sits in my garage waiting for a trip to the fitters. Thankyou Tweeks, and thankyou Maxsport for coughing up a replacement. Was a genuine claim so i guess karma sometimes works eh?
Did another grass autotest a few weeks back. Ended up 3rd O/A with 1.3 sec covering the top 3!!!!! I made a silly mistake whilst reversing and overshot a 'stop astride' line which got me a 5 sec penalty. So if it wasn't for that mistake i would have won the event outright......note to self.....tyres don't grip too well on damp grass going backwards!!!
I'm swapping seats for a historic rally next weekend down in south wales. Ross Traders Historic rally is the event. We are in an orange Triumph Dolly Sprint...fingers crossed going the right way!!!!
Entry is also in for the Clwyd Vale Classic rally.......this time i'm back in the correct seat and in the Clubby!!!
Got my pic's from the GP Memorial rally from a few weeks back.
First up is the now imfamous Kit Brow ford where we got soggy!!!! enjoy.

Did you have to provide a swimming certificate at signing on :)

Blinking heck or words to that effect. That ford looks deep! Think a Landy would think twice about that let alone a little old mini!
Did you have to provide a swimming certificate at signing on :)
It got much deeper!!!! That was just the ramp going in.
On the approach i thought (famous last words) "that doesn't look that deep"....then we drove in and stalled due to the exhaust getting filled with water and me driving like a complete wuss!
Where we stopped it was over sill height so was filling with water well before i had to open the door to get back in.....climbed out Dukes of Hazard style out of the window!!
I was soaked for the whole night, and was very entertaining at the first bend when we got going again as all the water sloshed up to one side....was like driving a bath!!!!
All great fun and another adventure for us. Don't think we've had an uneventful event yet.

Another slight update......
One of the bits of prep I did before the last rally was to fit a map light for my nav. She wanted to have a light on constantly so she could look at stuff, but not so bright that it blinds me. Our overhead map light is a bit bright to have on constantly!!! Picked up a brand new Avanti one off ebay at a really good price. Proved a great success on the event as it gives just enough light to the nav area and can be adjusted by turning the end too.
Been busy over the last few weeks tarting up my Exacton wheels. The tread on my road going 12's are on their last legs and seeing as i have a set of 10" falkens doing nothing I figured the Exactons needed to be sorted so I can take advantage of the wider rubber for the upcoming autotests and PCT. I'm not normally one for making things look pretty for the sake of it....and I am definately no show pony...but these wheels have come out so well that i thought i should share them with you.
Nice or what???? Got given the paint by a guy in work.....Cheers Al......but not too sure what the paint name or code is. It has GAY8 on the bottom of the tin, but not too sure if thats a paint code. Tried a google search but all sorts of things come up!!!!!!! He says its a genuine BL colour so anyone have any ideas??
This next pic is to kind of explain why bright orange. I was going to paint them black, but because i'm going to paint the car back to its original Aqua blue i wanted something to contrast and orange was suggested by my wife. It also have a retro 70's vibe about it so the plan was born.......
My toolbox is kind of Aqua coloured so gives you a clue what the car will look like.....I like it!!!!!!

And the comments about the depth of the ford (or should that be Zambezee river crossing?) and the gay paint made me LOL! Thanks!

Well the wheels look great. Did you spray them?
And the comments about the depth of the ford (or should that be Zambezee river crossing?) and the gay paint made me LOL! Thanks!
Yup, dusted my spray gun off and gave them a coat of etch first (took them to bare alloy on the face side) then on with the 2 pack GAY8 orange. Came up so shiney out of the gun i even impressed myself. Polished the lip before all that and masked it off. They are so GAY8 Orange that every bug and bee under the sun came to investigate thinking they'd found some big ass flowers to have a chomp on!!!

First bash at rally navigation done.
1st in class, 3rd Novice and 22nd Overall.......not bad for a complete (and i do mean complete) first timer. Who know's what the future holds? Perhaps i should give up driving....naaaa....too much fun.
The Ross traders rally is a fantastic rally for anyone who fancies a go. The special tests were mostly gravel and two of them were proper rally stage roads in the forest. The rest were at Chepstow race course on the tracks of the infield....again gravel, and by the end of the day quite rough.
The regularity was taxing, and we lost a few too many minutes here, but that was more due to my inexperience and a few wrong slots (I blame the driver!). The last regularity was a monster at 1hr 45min and was part pre plot and part plot and bash. This was all after a long long day in a hot and dusty classic car, so by then i had serious numb bum and a trainer soaked in hot oil thanks to a weeping oil pressure pipe!
Next up Vale of Clwyd Classic and i'm back in the mini and back in the drivers seat!!! bring it on!

I'll say it again though - bloody tremendous result, very well done indeed!! And yes, wrong slots are always the driver's fault (well, when you're navigating they are!!)
