Did another grass autotest this week and finished 2nd overall. Very happy with the result seeing as the guy who won it was national champion!

My wife had a bash too......and considering she has never driven the mini before or even done an autotest for that matter, I reckon her 5th overall and 1st in the Historic class was a very good result.  After the first round of tests, she improved by 5 seconds on one test and was only 0.5 seconds behind me on one of them!  Need to watch she doesn't improve too much mind you!!!!

I'm Clerk of the Course for the next KDMC Autotest as it would have been cancelled otherwise....not that i've got any organising experience!!!!!

So anyone in the north west fancy a bash at a grass autotest on the 3rd of June near Knutsford, check out Knutsford and District MC's website for reg's.

I'm really good at reading and interpreting maps.....trouble is i'm a terrible passenger with certain people.  Some people i'm fine with, but others i can't cope with being in the wrong seat without a steering wheel.  Control freak or perhaps its a trust issue.

She does want an MGB GT, so perhaps one day we'll do a classic HRCR event and swap roles.

I had the same feelings about being a control freak but a friend asked me to navigate for him. I was apprehensive about saying yes but I thought it can't be that bad and as I used to plot the maps anyway for my previous co drivers then I should be fine.
It's amazing how much I picked up from my navigator Ian that helped me on that first event and I now look forward to it. Can't wait for next weeks eagle rally as the escort has had more bhp!!!

Does your car need to have an msa logbook for the historic road rallies, or any other type of form?

Nope....has to meet certain reg's (i.e...can't have modern running gear) but no logbook required.  Has to be scrutineered to make sure you're not cheating and the car is safe...after that its road rally time!!!!

Is that just for club road rallies or for HRCR events too? I was under the impression that the car needs a FIVA identity card for HRCR stuff? Or is that for stage events only? It was so much easier when I started rallying, because historic cars were then not historic....!!

Catch up time.....been busy over the last few weeks on Clerk of Course duties for the second Grass autotest of KDMC's championship.  All went well, and let my step father borrow the mini and he finished 1st Novice!!!  Been busy cleaning all the grass, mud and horse poo from under the wheel arches!!!  Smells really nice!!!! NOT.

Anyway, since the last rally retirement i've been trying to solve the issue of the alternator slipping and fan belt loosing tension.  Found out that the two mounting holes in the uprated alty are slightly larger than the old standard one - allowing a bit more movement than liked!

Went to my local fixings and bolt supplier and he didn't have anything the right size...so back to the drawing board.....

So i made myself some bushes to sit in the oversize holes to stop movement....fingers crossed this will solve the problem.

Also, while i was keen....lately have felt movement from the engine so decided to fit two new minispares genuine engine mounts.  I thought this was an easy and simple job!!!  Even with the vast clubby engine bay its still a squeeze and fiddle doing this job.  Radiator out for more room (coolant everywhere!!!) and gear linkage dropped to allow engine jacking up.

P6080015_zps33e15b25.jpg

Looks like blood all over the floor....no i ain't murdered the car....just coolant.

P6080021_zps0c4fce2e.jpg

The mount under the rad looked ok (thought i was wasting my time and money on new mounts!), but the one under the flywheel looked a bit worn, so reckon the movement is coming from there...fingers crossed all solved.

Rally next weekend so tomorrows jobs -  look over the car, fit gravel tyres back on (not allowed for autotest) and maybe a little test drive.

Hi,
Rubber mounts are deceptive. Dropped the front subframe out on my clubby and it wasn't until started undoing one of the front teardrop mounts that it fell in half!

At least I can now purchase new solid mounts without thinking I am wasting my money:)

Got sent Final instructions and Entry list today for the G P Memorial rally this weekend coming.  Looks like there are 3 mini's running so if anyone fancies a spot of night rally speccying in the Preston area come and have a look.

if you would like to marshal then they are looking for helpers too.  if you do marshal, they feed you before and after the rally and if i provide a marshal i get some of my entry back.  Anyone interested give me a shout.  If you do it, and see me at the end i'll put my refund towards petrol for ya.

Fingers crossed all job's done on the car....but as always i'm sure there will be some last minute drama's!!!!!

Going for solid subframe mounts as I have the later single top bolt and rubber teardrops and rear floor mounts.

Good luck on the rally. Preston is a bit far from us, if you do anything a bit nearer Leicester will come and give you a wave!
