Probably one of the last Minis to come out of a Rover dealership, this was Follets on Berkeley Street in London's Mayfair, formerly Mann Egerton who in the 60's were retail dealers for Austin/Morris/Wolseley and Riley. It's now Stratsones who sell Land/Range Rovers.

I regularly passed the Sargeant and Collins dealership in Bromley when I went to College in Bromley from 1991-94, I think it's a BMW dealership now. There were two dealerships in Chelmsford one was on an industrial estate (I think this was the Days Broomfield site) and I bought a brand new Rover Metro 1.1C in March 1991 from the other site which was just as you entered Chelmsford town centre, I'll have to look up the name. I traded in the Metro in June 1993 (nothing wrong with it, just missed having a Mini!) for a Mini Rio and then in March 1996 for a Mini Sidewalk, both at the (I think Lex Mead) dealership in Upminster.
When I went to school in Hornchurch in the 1980's I used to pop into the Hornchurch Austin Rover dealership and get the latest 'Cars' brochure or latest Mini Brochure. I ogled a brand new White 'Designer' here, and saw new unregistered Mini's all the time including a Sky, Racing and Flame editions...
There were also dealerships in Brentwood (Spotted a brand new Mini 30 here and grabbed a brochure in 1989) and Romford (I think again Lex Mead), Brentwood I think became a Peugeot dealer but is now a boarded up derelict site. Must look up some of those dealership names...

I did my apprenticeship at Southern Counties, West Green. Worked there from '81 to '87 on Minis, Metros, Maxis, Marinas, Allegros, TR7s, Dolomites. Later got moved into the Rover department and spent most of the time on SD1s. Luckily I didn't have to get much involved in the Maestro/Montego side of things.Southern Counties Garages in Crawley, one at Three Bridges is now a Blockbusters and the one in West Green is a brown field car park used to have a great parts department back in the 80's everything you ever needed on microfiche
