This thread should be kept at hand for when we get those 'I need to sell my mini to buy a reliable daily driver' threads.
Minis can be reliable as long as you (and the dreaded previous owners) look after them!

Awesome! What (if any) spare bits did you take with you? Agree with this getting pinned, should stop the 'is my car going to breakdown on the way to the shops' threads

In short as little as possible! Obviously the more you weigh the more load you put on all of the car, and more fuel you use!
We took basic tools: socket set, spanners, screwdrivers, mole-grips etc and the only spares I took were a complete gasket set, points, condensor, by-pass hose and that was about it!

And you're both using Yoko A008s. Shows the quality of the brand right there. Especially for 15k miles.

Brilliant thread. Thanks for posting.

Ok, well maybe my 'zero breakdowns' wasn't very accurate, Harry needed constant tinkering and maintenance along the way.

Through the power of EXIF data, I managed to locate the exact point where you took these two photos so I thought I'd share the locations.

HAHA Now you look like a computer genius and top secret spy.

That sounds like a great trip (I can't see the pics at work :( ). I would love to go travelling around Europe in a Mini but the gf would not really be up for that. I wouldn't be covering that distance though - great effort and well done!

From my experience it was absolutely fine, everyone was instantly friendly and welcoming as soon as they saw the mini. It also really helps that everyone loves minis and they don't look too 'flashy' and expensive in the way that other classics might.

There are a few obvious things not to do like dont leave your iphone/ipod/GPS in full view on the dash and if you're worried about security camp in a proper campsite, there are plenty of them.

My advice would have to be 100% go for it!! It'll be unforgettable.
