if you need a white base to get the brightness, you can put a couple of coats of white plastidip on 1st (from the little I learned watching the dipmycar youtube vids)

Holy fun bags those first pictures where you just sprayed white primer on to unprepped paint made me spit my coffee every where.

Must admit it does look good though.

Ok so, not been on here for a while. Quick update.....
DO NOT PLASTI DIP YOUR CAR! Basically, the sun over the past 8 months has completely and utterly baked the stuff on. It has faded soooo much it looks f'ing awful now! I've tried peeling it, no luck.. I've tried thinners, paint stripper, blowtorches, petrol, you name it, I've tried it. The only way to get it back off now is to carefully grind it off :-( Absolutely gutted.

Do not do this to your mini. You WILL regret it

could it be that the platsi dip has bonded to the primer you applied? Don't forget that plasti dip is meant to be applied over a glossy top coat..

I think that must be your problem, the cars that they show on youtube have been done in a pretty hot climate and they don't seem to have any issues removing it. 1 bit they did mention was if the coating isn't thick enough, then it can be hard to remove, but they seemed to be sugesting that it was more it would come off in small bits rather than the 1 big sheet.

I don't think it's fair to discourage others from using it when you didn't use it as instructed.

Accurate. Applied correctly, you would have been fine. Now you need to sand it away and repaint your car which looked brilliant before you did the whole plastidip fiasco.

Well everywhere the sun hasn't hit (under all the trim) is still as good as the day I put it on and peels off no problem.

The fact remains, you applied it to primer which is porous and designed to promote adhesion. It's unfair to discourage others based on this.

What would be a useful test to see if there was an error with the dip or if it was down to the primer woudl be if you have any left and a good painted spare panel would be to give that the same number of coats, leave it out in the sun for the same amount of time and then see if it does the same or comes off properly.

It's does come off primer that's what I was saying. Underneath the bumpers, headlight ring etc when the sun don't shine, it peels off perfect. It's just where the sun has hit it's baked it on.

Not sure where I bought the kit.... But I have a feeling it was straight from plastidip uk
