It's a 1L and runs at 300 bhp, I would have thought it would have to have been rebuilt after every run!! :D

they just ran 156.045 on mile 3.

Car is in impound and we'll decide whether we'll try to back that record up in a few hours time...

I'm impressed, but my wife isn't!

I've just shown her this thread, and she said "Is that all? Any 18 year old with a Stage 1 tuned 998 can go faster than that! Especially if it's a red one with a white roof!"

by the way, it's a very pretty Mk1, but would you get an extra 1/4 mph with the flat, later rear lights and, especially, without the rear overriders and quarter bumpers? [let alone the external door hinges though that's not a simple change]

"rust per square inch" is a record that is regularly broken.

I think someone posted their antics in TMF earlier - was wondering how they had progressed.

I visited Sunny Nelson last year - great to see them doing fantastic things !

last update

So its been a busy day. We didn't manage to backup our 156mph run today but we still left the Salt with a new record: 146.6mph. Pretty bloody fast for a Mini.

Most of the day has been breaking camp, cleaning the salt off all the vehicles, packing the Mini into the trailer and getting out of town. Some of the team headed towards California with the Mini, others to Salt Lake City in a convoy of RV's - we're flying out Saturday.

Looks fantastic. Awesome achievement.

Is it road legal? Dosnt look Like you would expect for a high speed car - it still looks very 'standard' mini like if you get me

That is great!

What sort of aero stuff does it have fitted underneath?

Also, the rear valance, I don't know what they're like on Mk1 minis, but isn't that a massive source of drag at the sorts of speeds? Its effectively a big scoop under the back of the car.

Looks like they have some sort of aluminium plate under the rear valance so probably got the whole underside done similarly. Bit like the F1 & ferarri's etc undertrays.
