I never said it wouldn't be awesome! The bike was nick named "Frankenstripe"
Hmm, I was kind of hoping to avoid body mods but flip front would make work and fitting easier I suppose...

I keep seeing people selling 1275 autoboxes on ebay stick with A series also MRA is back on the automini register by the looks of it, reckons he has turbo charged an auto and modded the transmission to 120bhp......
go on stick with A series auto!!

It's cost vs. benefit, dude.
I can shell out well over a £1.5k on the transmission to make it capable of taking more power, but with no real guarantees or reliable lifespan - not to mention rebuilding the engine costs too or I can fit myself a nice modern valver, that's not only better economy and smoother but also massively more powerful and has a long lived transmission that's built to handle the power produced by the engine.
With the A series it's always going to be overstretched, effectively living on borrowed time. I don't think I drive the mini in a way that's conducive to long A series auto life to be honest
Plus I sold my £600 cylinder head, intake and exhaust already...

fair enough.... i guess you will just have to be envious of my 998 autobox until you get a mivic or moxhaull
ahaaa! 998 auto and envious in one sentence is a bit of a stretch. hehe

I've got 2 Metro 1275 auto boxes in my garage, they just don't work too well
Ogy will most likely end up a Rover mini, so not a far stretch. The main question at the moment is if I can shoe horn the turbo transmission into the roundnose

Woah I seriously love this thread man awesome rebuild! For years I've always thought about hand painting cars but have always had people knock me back about it. That paintjob looks A1 you've done a fantastic job, I will consider taking your advice if I ever paint a mini in future!

Cheers dude!
Poor fella has been neglected recently with getting a new car and then being burgled
But soon I should be back on track once I get some space and tools. Then it's time for a sub frame!

Cheers, dude! Glad it brought a smile.
Car isn't in daily use since the demise of gearbox no.2 but the paintwork is holding up just fine to the British summertime and balmy autumn heat!
Ogy is actually wrapped up in a Stormforce cover now, project "reliable gearbox" was put on hold due to the break-in etc. But once the insurance get their finger out I'll be ready to start work on subframes and what not to get him ready for next year!
I was sceptical of the paintwork holding out at first but as it was only £50 I figured even 2 years wasn't bad going, seems robust though - even took my mum knocking it with an axle stand (don't ask).
The paint itself was Dulux trade, solvent based. The rollers were called high gloss foam rollers and came from eBay in a big box, along with some 1" wide foam brushes.
Primer was just Halfords high build out the aerosol.
If I was to do it again I'd probably use Rustoleum, mostly because you can have any colour mixed you like.
