I'm all over that, fella!

Soon as I get wheels on the car (assuming the head has stopped playing silly buggers) and modded the Alpha seat I will be mobile again, assuming I can fit in the garage I'm all yours ;-)

That sounds painfully familiar to the first weeks with Ogy!

Only a quickie but as I'm unable to get to the garage today (more doctors appointments) I thought I'd give you the skinny!

With the weather finally improved for more than a day, I've been able to make some more noticeable progress on the small blue one. Mostly in the shape of getting the cutting finished on the paint and putting the wheels back on!

This did lead to a slight hiccup as they don't appear to be where I left them ...

I should clarify, the wheels are where I left them but they aren't sitting on the car where they used too. I'm guessing that changing the subframe bushes is the culprit but until I get a measuring tape out I won't know whether it's that the old bushes were letting the s/f sit out of line and the new ones pulled it straight or if it's now wonky.

Can't be that hard to fix either way, surely?

Just about where I left you:

Not where I left you:
IMAG0779.jpg

While I'm here I might as well show you some paintwork shots, 'eh ;-)

Lastly I'm thinking of relocating the number plate somewhere more generic, I tried it off to one side but apart from having the weld a bracket through the fresh paint I couldn't decide if I like it or not.

So at the moment it's going back here:

IMAG0785.jpg

Just need something to mask the holes from the bonnet badge now, either another badge or some careful blending!

Today I finished the bonnet. Mostly because I wanted to have at least one bit of the paintwork done and it was a good excuse to do something else afterwards.

Just the 2 pics;

The finish is pretty good considering, there's a few patches on the rest of the car that I'm not completely happy with but I'm trying my hardest to remember it's going to subjected to the elements and traffic so will probably last all of 5mins before it's chipped.

With that done I moved onto pulling off the steering column to lower dash mount to fit a new drop bracket, as I hang onto the wheel when getting in and out the car it seemed a good idea to have something substantial holding it in place!

Should do the trick!
bracket.jpg

While I wait on the new bolts to hold it I'm going to get the rest of the paint polished and sealed and then crack on with the sub enclosure!

Cheers buddy!

No worries about today, I was busy all day as it was without any jacking up and cutting :P

I'll be cracking on tomorrow and the weekend, hopefully in a position to get it out off the drive next week to check the paint all round.

Going to have to replace the rear brake adjuster too as that tool is distorting the head, another little job!

Good luck with the interview, dude. You got bored driving?

Good work on buffing the paint, came out really good!

Couldn't help notice this, Más rud é nach féidir leat a rith leis na madraí mór, nach piss suas na crainn arda.

What does it mean? :S

My Irish isn't great, nach féidir leat = you can't. Rith leis = run with. madraí mór = big dogs. Nach piss suas na crainn arda = dont piss up on tall tree?

I can't figure it out! :P

Cheers fella :)

It's a bit pig Irish, but the rough jist is "If you can't run with the big dogs, don't piss up the tall trees"

Blimey, I was back to page 10! Have to work faster in future O_O

And I'm back!

After a brief pause hanging about for parts, a welder breaking at an inopportune moment and being forced, forced I tell you to spend a week on a cruise ship all expenses paid in the Adriatic, I finally got back and was able to make some more progress.

It's been horribly slow, mostly because it's all been waiting for various glues, fillers, paint and fibreglass to dry but here I am with an update for the 4 of you still reading this!  ;)

First off the bat was a power lead, bigger stereo means bigger drain and I don't want to be robbed of any precious amps by the cable being too thin, so I upgraded!

This should do the trick:
IMAG0839.jpg

Next was an alternator, the stock 55amp is a bit wimpy and already complains if I have the headlights and indicators on so I opted for something with slightly more balls. A Granada alternator that comes in with a princely 90amps:
IMAG0837.jpg

With all that power now available it was high time it was put to use, so with a quick hammer and screw plus a buzz with a jigsaw I had an amp rack for the 2 Genesis amps:
IMAG0814.jpg

Of course there's no point having some swanky posh amplifiers if you aren't giving them a good signal to boost, problem solved:
HU.jpg

That only left the slight issue of the amazingly sound having nowhere to go...

Best build a sub enclosure!
IMAG0810.jpg

IMAG0813.jpg

IMAG0817.jpg

IMAG0820.jpg

IMAG0822.jpg

IMAG0823.jpg

IMAG0859.jpg

IMAG0860.jpg

Phew, in between all the drying stages I was dashing out to the car and running cables for power, signal, etc. and getting the amps comfy.

Which ended up a bit like this:

IMAG0824.jpg

IMAG0864.jpg

With all that done I was feeling pretty itchy (mostly fibreglass it turns out) due to not doing anything mechanical in a while, so with a few swift emails to a helpful chap by the name of Benross (Steve) a new addition to the engine bay was arranged.

And here it is:
Head1-1.jpg

Head2.jpg

Along the the MED stub stack, a recurved dizzy and AC Dodd tune plus the HIF 44 I'm currently Vizardising it should keep me entertained a while.

While I'm sure you're not interested in the specs, I'll post them just for completeness value  ;D

Modified combustion chambers, with 20 8cc giving 10:1 compression,
Fully ported and polished for maximum port velocity and flow
3 angled seats on the inlets, with 1 mm seat
45° seats on the exhausts 1 mm
Stellite unleaded inserts
525 fast road double thin wire springs kind to the valve train but capable of 7000 rpm with no valve bounce
35.7 mm inlets
29.5mm exhausts

214 plasma nitrided stainless race valves
Bullet nose manganise bronze guides
Dupont top quality stem seals
Hasterloyd inner valve spring retainers

That's about it for now, next on the list is some new seats (oooh) a slight cop out on the dashboard front and new front speaker pods for the 16.3's!

Busy busy.

Where is the sub going??  Have been thinking about one myself and don't know if shape mattered or it was just volume of enclosure!  Looking at yours,  shape not a problem lol.  Great work as usual.

Cheers, dude!

Sub will be going in the driver side rear bin.

The previous one was in the boot but due to the massive displacement of the 10w6 I had to shift positions. I could of extended the boot enclosure but currently it's exactly big enough for 2 carry on luggage cases :P

As no one will sit in that seat ever I shouldn't have any H&S issues :D

As far as shape of enclosure, odd shapes are often considered better than regular because of something to do sound pulses... Apparently.
