My headlining is shorter than normal due to the sunroof hole I had to cut so gonna glue the headliner to the roof and carpet all the left over bare metal if that makes sense.. should look neat

Question is, what will hold it taught? Can't use a glue gun as the glue is crap so what can people think of? Velcro is weak and can't screw into the roof :/

Any ideas?

Cheers

Thing is it doesn't meet the window lips on back and rear quarters too so can't really use pegs as I put windows back in..

Can't think of anything strong enough to hold it taught

Don't understand why the sunroof hole would make the rest of it not fit?

Does the headlining not meet the lip where the window seal sits?

I used contact adhesive to fit mine

I used some 3M scotch weld adhesive from work to stick the carpet to the roof of my mini. I tried evostik impact adhesive from B&Q before this but as soon as the sun came out one day it flopped back down and i had to glue it all over again - and i have a roll cage which is a real pain to work around lol

Because it pulls the headlining up higher rather than sitting lower meaning its just that bit shorter by about 20mm.. will try that scotch weld stuff :)

And Alex.. if all else fails i will try mate haha ;)

One tip for future headlinings, don't use glue. As over time it goes brown and stains the edges. Instead i've always used double sided foam tape, once the door and window seals are in the headlining isn't going anywere anyways.

Yeti .. was that headlining onto roof or were the window seals there too??

I don't think everyone understands that the headlining in my mini DOES NOT reach the rear or rear quarter window seals/lips so I have to glue the liner to the roof instead or in another way

Cheers for the replies

Some of the places it's round the window bits but others it's onto flat metal, another tip I got told was dont use the spray ones use the brush on ones and apply to both the metal and the fabric, wait till its gone a bit tachy and then push them together and hold till stuck

I understand (sort of) that your headliner is not reaching the window openings but I cannot imagine a method of securing the headliner around the windows that will look nice when you are done. Have you considered buying a yard of headliner vinyl in a comparable (or nicely contrasting) color and bonding it to your headliner around the edges? Vinyl glue for repairs should allow you to stick the new and old vinyl together. Allow a couple of days for it to dry, then remove the glass and use contact cement around the body openings to secure the new vinyl. After an hour or so refit the glass and you would be done.

So essentially extend the existing headlining with another one so to speak??

I have a parcel shelf covered in acoustic cloth / carpet and was thinking of just doing this around the bits that are not covered by the headlining so it all blends in almost.

Hopefully off to halfrauds today so I will have a look what they got. Just need something strong enough to keep it taught without creating a massive mess.

Carpet tape won't be good enough either I don't think..

No, carpet tape is typically not good for much except for horizontal flat surfaces.

Yes, I was suggesting "extensions" for the headliner so you could tuck it in behind the glass. It is a lot of work though.

When you do find a solution, please post a picture when you are happy with the results.
