no worries mate :) your probably right, Cliff didnt have any paint on the rear bech either and it was just overspray on the under side :ohno: i wish there was a way of finding the production number like something to do with the VIN plate etc? would be interesting to know how close these two were together  yes rover should (if they were still going) be ashamed O_O mine says austin on the log book so its all gooood :shifty:

Cliff still isnt on the road yet >_< he's been ready to go for months now but i havent took my practicle test yet plus i dont really need a car for the last few months of sixth form as its only up the road so i'm going to leave it untill i'm 18 (in may) as insurance should drop a little and i would have saved up by then :D i'll also be starting a higher apprentice ship so i'll be able to afford to run him and buy nice shiny bits  fear not as he lives in our nice sealed and heated garage under a proper cover so he wont go rusty =] i might put him on the road under my dads name at the start of the summer so we can take him to shows etc :highfive:

cheers buddy

Rhys

It's good to see similar repairs as when it's all going on it can be a little like drowning in mini despair lol

Hi All.

I've actually had some time to work on the mini this weekend. Cherry now has her Scuttle Panel on!

Over the past few weeks I have done various bits and bobs on the car. Mainly getting the car ready to get through winter as there was already bits of surface rust appearing everywhere. She is currently sat under my carport and is well sheltered but it still gets damp etc at night. I have totally repainted the floor again as when I had been grinding things the filings had eaten into the etch primer and started to corrode. My fault obviously. haha.
Thanks for looking
Joe

Hi Joe,

As I can't restore one myself for now I like to read how others are getting on. Yours is one of my favourite restos.

Can't wait to see her finished!

Jason

Thanks for the positive comments guys. I can really see her coming together now. I haven't done anything on her yet this week as I am on holiday again. Haha. However my dad has managed to get hold of a new radiator and some rear hubs with new pads etc from a guy at work. bonus! (Thanks dad)

Cheers. Joe

Hi All.
Long time since the last update! Life keeps getting in the way! haha..

I have been test fitting the new wings. I must say I am in need of advice. I cant get them to fit properly. I got them from an Autojumble and I think they are ones that someone has given up trying to fit as they have holes in them as if they have been screwed before. I think I need to get some new ones. Are genuine parts the best way to go or is there a 'good' patern panel out there? I don't know what make the wings I have are.

Anyway, Some pictures!

As you can see the fit is not great.

Thanks for looking. Joe

Joe,

my wings were exactly the same, one pattern, one herritage !! I could get a pretty good fit around the front panel, but the scuttle it where the problems are usually found and like me yours don't fit well there either, (drv side). I slotted mine on the passenger side to get a good enough fit and once welded back up who would know !! I would get the A panels in place and clamped or screwed in, and lots of clamping pliers to hols parts in place as you fit other areas. The fit to the inner wings can be made to fit with some 'pressure', mine needed a fair bit, but the as you can see the bonnet will need some attention. See Shifty's thread for his how to or maybe at the top of the bodywork section.

Don't give up on them just yet as second hand pattern aren't worth much so have a go at slotting them and making them fit. Even if you have to buy new herritage then you will have a better idea of how to fit them .

Wings are notorious for not fitting first time even Heritage. You will need to trim here and there and then use some brute force plus self tappers to align everything. Be patient thats the main thing.

You really do not want to go the route i did which was to extend the bonnet each side and along the front as well.
