Hi All.

Today I have been taking all the bitumen crap off the floors. I can't actually believe how much there was! I thought the floors were ok as I have cleaned underneath and found no rust however as we all know rust can hide in strange places.. I am pleased to say there isn't much that I didn't know about.. I was a bit fed up to find what a mess the back seat was in.. Oh well.. Will have to get the welder on it. haha

Hi TMF
Today I have been trying to sort out the rear bench and the floor underneath. I haven't ground the welds back properly yet as I am going to do that all in one go at a later stage in the hope that I can get as much welded as possible with out having to stop to tidy things up.. ;)

At some stage this week I am hoping to get the passenger side door step and rear quarter panel in so I painted the inside of the sill with Chassis Paint to protect it.

That's all for today guys and gals.
As always, thanks for looking. Comments welcome
Cheers Joe

some excellent progress here mate, good job :genius: i remember when i was taking the bitumen stuff off of cliffs floor pans, hammer + screw driver + stripped out mini shell in an enclosed garage = banging head ache >_< i never took it off the rear floor pans as the floors were still completely solid and i wanted to keep as much sound deadening as possible :proud:

keep up the great work mate

Rhys

hi Rhys. I got blisters on my hand from scraping! haha. I'm glad I took it off round the rear as one of the floor bungs was loose and badly corroded round the edge and needs treating. I wouldn't have seen it otherwise. haha. I am planning to put flashing tape down and then sound deadening of some sort.
thanks for the comment mate. cheers.

i had blisters for a while too...bad times >_< ;D we checked for rust on the rear floors when we rolled cliff over so i know (well at least hope O_O) that the rear floor is rust free :proud: i've heard that flash band is good stuff to use, shame i didn't hear about the use of it earlier as we had loads left from when we built the extension >_< oh well, my laminate flooring underlay sound proofing is working well so far, i can still hear my exhaust and ram pipe roar but there is no tinny vibrations which is exactly what i wanted (and it was free :shifty: hehe) :D

keep up the great work pal

Rhys

hi rhys. thanks for the comment. glad you can still hear the exhaust.. its all part of the charm of a mini. I am looking into changing the heater system to something which will blow through the side window demisters so I can weld the air holes in the top of the bulkhead up. when I used to have my mini a few years ago the ammount of road noise that came through them was unreal. engine/exhaust noise is fine but road noise is annoying lol. also looked into putting wheel arch liners in as I read that could stop allot of noise.. they are however expensive.. lol.. bot sure it will be worth it.. maybe though.. I am currently taking a few days off from mini-ing as I have other projects to attend to... ie housework. lol. cheers. Joe

Hi Everyone
Today we welded on the new flitch panel
Posted Image
I plug welded it and also seam welded it. Hopefully the way we have done it will add strength. It certainly feels stronger than it did before.
Posted Image

I think my welding has improved allot recently. I am still learning to set it correctly.

We also welded in the sill stiffners
Posted Image
Posted Image

We will soon we welding in the new door frame and rear quarter repair. We will then be lowering the car down onto a pallet so we can do the scuttle and fit the wings etc.. She is getting there.. Slowly but surely. Thanks for looking.

Hi TMF
Today I have been sorting out the rear bench. I cut out the rust and welded a new piece in. I am allot happier with my welding now.
Cut out

Welded in

And underneath

I then had a go at welding up all the other holes and drain holes in the floor.

I really feel like I am getting somewhere now and can see the light at the end of the tunnel! haha. Next job is the passenger side rear floor. I ground down some rust and treated it. I will see about welding it up tomorrow.

Thanks for looking. Comments always welcome.
