There was a 1960 van for sale a couple of months back. Only issue was it was in New Zealand. Was a genuine one too.

Do you think the Heritage Trust would know reg/details of the first minivan off the production line & how many there are left?

Anyone know when the first van came off the production line?

Rang the British Motor Heritage Trust today & they said basically the only way to find when the first Minivan came off the production line was to go to their reading room (Mon-Fri) & search through all the records. But as written here on MiniMania the chassis numbers started at 101 at both Longbridge & Cowley & they had their own numbering sequence not to mention there were saloons & vans etc all mixed in together, so 85000 could be a Van then 85001 could be a saloon & so on. At least we know they first started producing them in Jan 1960. (Ref)

I went on a factory tour of Longbridge in the early 1980's with the then Mini Cooper Club and we saw Minivans being built but were not allowed to take any photos. The guy running the tour said they would soon cease production because of the new Metro Van, big mistake as the Metro van never sold as well as the Minivan........ If only I'd had the spare cash at the time to buy a few of those last Mini commercials................

Mini Van
Austin Mini Van = 174,500
Morris Mini Van = 169,249
Mini Van 850 = 94,899
Mini Van 1000 = 82,356
Total = 521,494

Mini Pick-up
Austin Mini Pick-up = 18,000
Morris Mini Pick-up = 12,652
Mini Pick-up 850 = 12,130
Mini Pick-up 1000 = 15,397
Total = 58,179

From the book "Complete Mini" by Chris Rees

Back in 2002 there were only 1,771 Vans and Pick-ups left on UK road according to DVLA figures published in one Mini book at the time.

nala56 - Thats one very awesome build, everything looks well thought out & great attention to detail.

mab01uk - Thats some good info there, I bet there are even less on the road/sorn now. It'd be very interesting to know just how many are left.

The oldest surviving was in Belgium. Was a imported from the uk in the 90's and restored to original spec about 8 years ago. Last thing I heard about it a collectioner bought it and fitted a V-maxscart conversion but after that it went of the radar.
