So another hour today and part one of making the standard grill and headlight setup work

Start off with cutting the old crap out and sand all the flanges flat

EED3E1BF-10B3-4DF8-BC74-D02049845AEA_zps

Then see if the whole is the right size for the grill. Looks much better already

24C16D75-4C8E-45AE-B363-9AF9E27F6D34_zps

It needs a little work at the top either making the grill slightly bigger (reads bending it) or cut the front on the bonnet lip pull it down and glass it back up

EB0278E1-F86B-406B-82BA-57F5E0DD3C24_zps

More to come making the light pods

As above much better, are you going to add some fiberglass strengtheners between the bonnet and front panel and for mounting the grille?

So part 2 of the grill saga started by cutting a piece of steel to the size of the grill

C2D87D8D-6480-417E-8313-16F0AFEA99A2_zps

Then welded a strip to the outer edge

E5BC9B90-9641-4741-AC27-ED184A4C192D_zps

And this is will now become the mould for the fibreglass part and give me a headlight panel like this

Jesus I've not updated this in a while well I've not touched the car for that time either. But today I went to pick up a diesel box and the bloke couldn't be bothered splitting the box so I took the lot in the boot of the fiesta

03D3D645-D6F3-4892-B881-B262DA982F54_zps

And using my favourite method a good old plank and elbow grease. Engine out and box split stick the engine out for the scrap man

0A722C97-8915-4868-A71D-8938C7096DAA_zps

Then stripped the box down I kept all the bearings as I can't remember what ones I need from the u spec derv box so I'll just compare them all

5EC9ACBF-4A98-4598-B171-43F0F496B90A_zps

I want the car on the road by my birthday in May so I've warned the wife I will be doing something everyday even if it's small

Got out there today at 8pm after doing dad duty so started by taking the engine out the mini and splitting the box

DF5D74B6-A9E8-4084-8B37-D9BAC557DDEA_zps

Then stripped the box down nice and quick then built all the diesel gears back in the petrol case

4A921F20-2A71-4D57-8FEA-209B6B8DF015_zps

I used the petrol selecter and reverse as they looked to be in better Nick

That's todays work just need some gasket sealant then I can put the top half back

Update from the last few days I've got the box back together back on the motor and back in the car with the hard to reach hoses attached

46E97B6B-6C9A-4408-836B-CBD14761881A_zps

Then fitted the driveshafts and shocks

74CC9A7D-15E0-45F6-AD97-9E45950CFDC4_zps

Although I have a problem I don't seem to have neutral I've got all the others just not neutral

One step forward two back

Had to remove the engine and strip the box back down this evening turns out I put the 5th gear syncro hub on upside down but all fixed now and I'll put the engine back tomorrow night after work

Uodate from last night

Got the box out back together and back on the engine then back in the car with the shafts then plumbed in my new ebay special radiator and fan. I ordered the cheapest rad I could find and got one of the fletcher ones sent not bad

6B85083F-94D1-4586-9CF3-96C6236649F4_zps

The old bypass inlet on the thermostat housing is it in the positive flow so I bought an ally blanking plug and tapped it as a bleed point

61AF7D05-077E-44AA-83F0-9734ABFAE8B4_zps

And the bottom hose uses standard mini bottom hose to a 90 bend into the cut down metal return pipe to the engine and the two blue connectors you see are inline to the heater hose to the return as a bypass when the heater is off just need a 180 bend in 19mm

I've been plugging away at this little by little I've got handbrake internal battery and brake line along with the fuel so it's ready for the interior to be fitted apart from the dash I've also got the throttle cable and clutch in. I've made my alternator bracket

0AF7CAE5-DB5F-4312-82E7-A293B603DC03_zps

9E26B246-59AE-49FB-8D97-D5B602124EDE_zps

Seems to fit well and straight but only have 20mm travel for adjuster so I'll see how it does

33B985E9-207C-4E5A-B368-D07B49515035_zps

Started reworking the frontend so I can fill in the cutouts I made and fit the tie bars in properly. I've moved it forward about an inch

8BC2FE30-6FE8-4C24-AA67-241C173CC08B_zps

Also got a fitting to finish off my waterworks just the heater to plumb in

9136EA54-D7A7-4482-A329-7E02B9C73C4D_zps

I saw this on another build and thought it was a neat way of doing it so engine electrics run into the car here along with the starter live

C69AAA9F-8CA4-4FD0-91F7-E8B55D570783_zps

Then plumbed in the fuel lines to the engine

2F0CAAF9-DAF4-4811-8D40-A38F1B367256_zps

Slowly ticking things off the list

Cheers Darren
