Think about how smug you'll feel every time you open your boot at a mini meet and people are amazed, it'll be worth it!

Of course they might not see it if you never finish the engine ;D

Darren,

there are a few things I wish I'd not done but when you go down the modification route there really isn't any road back apart from making it work.  Stick with it,  you will do a fab job in the end.

Get the hinges finished off after snapping one and starting again but all done now

null_zpsc5d86511.jpg

Ended up making them out of a single piece of round bar and as you can see sanded the boot mounting point flat for two reasons, to give it a flat mounting surface and also to pull the 2nd hinging point closer to the boot lid for the extra mm of clearance lol. Then I needed to sand the hinge mount part down to 3mm to fit in the mounts

Need to make the boot lid mounts a little neater then mount it to the lid I will be using but getting there

Cheers Darren

Well here it is the proof that my boot hinges work I've spent far too long on these now but almost done

Fully closed

null_zpsefff157a.jpg

First stage open

null_zpsd9c81907.jpg

And fully open

null_zps2bc09e0d.jpg

This is my clearance on the rear panel

null_zps8906c933.jpg

And a video of it working so far still I've since mounted a bar across the two hinges and just need to mount a gas strut

http://i1166.photobu...zps5aa4dff7.mp4

Another video tomorrow of it fully working

Cheers mate almost there now

I'm not very good at keeping these video promises lol but I've been making brackets today

Picked these up last night

null_zpsc3b93958.jpg

And started making the mounting brackets for them first with a captive nut I made two if these

null_zps62edd4f4.jpg

Then welded a strip 1" between them

null_zpsa12fe26d.jpg

And then all done and cleaned off

null_zps28aad347.jpg
And then mounted

null_zps80199409.jpg
Also made a smaller one for the other end

null_zps6411ca8c.jpg

The end is in sight for this just need to weld the hinges on the the bootlid I will be using and sort a lock out

Cheers Darren

Don't want to be negative bud but will the hinges you have made be ok with the force onto rams? I know my BMW ones on my front end are half the size of yours and they take a bit of force to compress ?
