hi mate your project thread is great ive been studying it for the last hour, thanks for the links to panels you sent me earlier.... can you link me to the rh inner wing please  and let me know how the scuttle ends fitted and where you got them thanks

Hi there mate glad you liked the thread any questions don't hesitate to ask the inner wing came from a member off here but it is this part from minispares

http://www.minispare...Back to search.

I would strongly suggest a full scuttle and genuine one at that but the ends can be fitted with a lot of work and filler ill link you to both ends and the full one

http://www.minispare...|Back to search

A cheaper less well fitting alternative

http://www.minispare...|Back to search

And then the end pieces should you go down the route just search the site for the other side

http://www.minispare...MS.aspx|Back to

And whichever route you take to repair the scuttle you will need one of the closure panels for either side

http://www.minispare...6L.aspx|Back to

Hope this is what you are looking for

Darren

to be honest il probably will regret it but as this is my first ever project (that happens to be quite rusty) just to have it solid will be a great achievment for me .and at the moment i havnt got a clue as to what panels to repair or replace first , but after help from you guys im thinking it will be best to start at the door post area and work back..............

Yeah I see your point this was my first mini too and cost was a big factor for me. As for where to start I would put a question out there in the bodywork section as there is no right way to do it but a logical one. I started on the floors so that I had some solid inner sills to weld the steps too on one side then on the other did the a post before the step. Whatever you choose to do, finish one bit before moving off or you will just a have a list of unfinished bits

So last couple of days update

Not done a massive amount but it's something made a start on the rear arch renewal and cut the old one out

null_zps3c53cc38.jpg

Then seeing as this is the last time I will have major access to the boot I cut the skin off an old boot lid and taped n tied it in place

null_zpsdb29aabc.jpg

Then started on the internal hinges that will flip up to match the front pulled the old bonnet hinge mounts off as they seem a foot place to start with and clamped some 3mm between them to get the spacing needed

null_zps01efc56a.jpg

Then using my marks made with the boot kid on I welded then to the parcel shelf

null_zps2d0e5417.jpg

null_zps8db5f336.jpg

I must also admit at this point I have run out of gas so it's gasless until I can get some more 😔

More soon cheers

Good work darren, like the idea of the boot, something different. Are you planning for it to swing right the way around so it's vertical again?

Yeah it will go right up or getting anything out will be a pain also hoping to have it on a gas ram also like the front just need to work out a mounting system so it can't be seen

Sounds good, Just need to be careful how you mount it. Have a look at bluebloods minus if you haven't already he had a problem with his internal boot hinges.

Yeah saw that the other day it's all about the pivot point being as close to the point you want to pivot round ie the rear panel lip

I'm hoping it turns out the way I want but I'm staying all steel and keeping the number plate recess too so going semi smooth with internal lock

Not a lot been happening the last couple of weeks but still working on the internal flip up hinge and have made many attempts at it

Mk1 2 and three none worked

null_zps11ba0364.jpg

Then came up with this it's only rough in thin steel so far but is a double hinge it pivots once under the parcel shelf and again on the boot itself. The first part of the hinging will be by gas ram then flip it up by hand from there

null_zpsf318f3d8.jpg

null_zps27672597.jpg

The bit at the top is the new mount as the old ones were too far away from the pivot point and they will sit right under the parcel shelf on the rear panel I should get them cut into thicker steel tomorrow and welded in

Cheers Darren

Just a question if it flips up the way are you moving the lock to the bottom of the boot lid or using lockable catches ??

I will be using an internal lock at the bottom most probably from my mg donor car just not sure weather to make it electric pop or cable with the battery being in the back I'm leaning towards cable

Got all the mounts and one hinge cut out in 3mm it took forever with the carbide burr so only one hinge today lol

null_zps7c75a380.jpg

And for anyone that wants to know this is how the hinges will mount to the rear panel

null_zps1315432b.jpg

Should have the other hinge cut out tomorrow then start mounting it up

Cheers Darren

Well the first few tries of the hinges didn't work at all so back to the drawing board made the first "new" one Fromm 6mm bar but it was too thin so made it again from 8mm which is much stronger and they curl up into the a cut out in the parcel shelf. Wish I never started now but ill get there in the end then I can move on

Cheers Darren
