...For only a quid!!

Some of you might know how to do this already, but if anyone's interested I found this very inexpensive method of smartening up my bumpers, which were pitted with rust.

Basically, you need Cola and aluminium foil. Put some Cola in a bowl and rinse the bumpers using the rest. Now scrunch up some foil (shiny side outwards if poss), soak it in the Cola in the bowl and rub your bumpers with it, paying particular attention to the rusty parts.

I couldn't believe the results! I went from this:

To this:

Well chuffed!! :proud:

I was worried the foil might scratch the bumper, but it didn't. I finished off by rinsing, drying and polishing with metal/chrome polish (Autosol). Worked out way cheaper than buying new ones!

I did this the other night myself. The results are unexpected. They look new now.

Its the combination of phosphoric acid and the bubbles of carbon dioxide that help to clean it.
If youve seen mythbusters there was an episode where they tested all sorts of myths about coke and what it does to teeth/flesh/metals etc

I know people who use Coke and only Coke to clean their toilet, amongst other things.

Wasn't sure about the foil thing, thought it was an old wives tale. Apparently it leave little silvery bits in the tiny holes in the chrome. Don't really believe that myself, just think it scrubs and polishes well.

And any version of Cola will do, cheap or expensive :proud:

this is a brilliant idea mate :) might have to give this a go! interesting myth or fact (I dont know what it is), most of you might know it, but Coke, in its raw "syrup" form has to be transported in special corrosive tankers with the corrosive chemicals logo on... supposedly. as said, makes you wonder what it can do to your insides though if it can polish Chrome

I've used tin foil & vinegar to do a similar thing......works a treat.
