Nice tune, but don't see the connection, unless that mute is a rubber donut 
By any chance is the rubber grommet missing from the bulkhead cross member? Water can drain down inside the trumpets without it.

Only connection in the tune is the trumpets.
The grommet is in place. I think it's just due to the age and that some time in the cars past it was stored in a damp atmosphere as it has slight surface corrosion on most parts, including in the interior.
