hi

im planing to fit a t2 turbo to my project 1275 turbo.

whats needed to fit one and what ones fit?
i know that the R5GT turbo one fits, but is there any others that will fit?

i know that i would need to moddify the manifold or buy a mirage kit...what is best for porformance??
is there anything else that i would need to salvage/buy new for this turbo??

cheers
josh

The Mirage kit does save a fair bit of work and if you don't want to cut the bulkhead, is the only way, though you still need to sort the oil drain, rotate the compressor housing and mount the actuator, but if your quite handy it's fairly easy to make up an adaptor plate and fit a T2 to the Metro manifold, this is what i did.
Using the Metro manifold you'll also need to sort out an oil drain, remount the actuator, rotate the compressor housing and modify a T3/Maniflow downpipe to clear the subframe and potjoint. You'll also need to gut and re-weld the exhaust elbow so it faces the correct way.
I'd say the Metro manifold may be slightly better design performance wise, though the Mirage one is still certainly a great piece of kit.
Most T2's with the standard 4 bolt pattern will fit the Mirage Mani, as will some t25's. Most should be easily adapted for the Metro item. Avoid the Fiesta RS with it's 3 bolt pattern.

Phil.

I have some pics i can upload later, in a rush now.

so would i benifit alot from a T2 over a T3?
would it be good around traffic etc, or does that depend on the cam (think im going for a avonbar turbo phase 2)

cheers

The Phase 2 is quite a great cam for fast road use, coupled with an R5 T2 you'll certainly have plenty of power low down. Other factors will also affect drivability such as compression and cylinder head port sizing, but a P2 cam and T2 certainly won't harm things.

well this is the spec of the engine im thinking about.

1275cc (if the block i buy doesnt need a rebore, if so 1293)
crank re-ground and balanced
centre main strap
minispares fast road lightwhight flywheel (pre verto type)
morespeed turbo booster head (or will it be a bit over the top??)
avonbar p2 cam kit
megajolt ignition
cr/sc gearbox (not sure what ratio)
sc drop gears
minispare x pin diff
t2 turbo on a mirage manifold
not sure what pistons or cr...what would you recomend??
oil cooler
inter cooler (whatever one will fit!!)
ARP bolts
2" maniflow turbo exahst system (single box, side exit)

is there anything else i should think about?
its going to be for a road going car with the odd trackday etc, do you think it will be reliable and behave in traffic etc if done propoly?

cheers

Good spec with most things covered.

As far as pistons go you have a fair bit of choice. I personally use the Minispares Mega piston that have been machined with a larger dish,15cc.

Morspeed is tooled up to mod the pistons to 15cc if that dish is required.

so do you think i should just moddify the head, or get a morspeed one like the turbo booster?
also what sort of power do you think i should expect to see from this engine once its all setup propoly on a rolling road?
would it be reliable do you think?

cheers

With a fairly std setup, which I am going for, apart from an intercooler and a dump valve, there is no reason, if treated right, a good build shouldn't last to at least 100k miles!

People talk about Turbo engines being a PIA, because' people turn the wick up far too much, and blow things up!! I mean 218bhp, in a town motor? Reliablity is not on the list!

Once mine is set up properly, I will be looking at about 110 bhp, at wheels.

This is a health power level :D

I am spending far too much on this Mini to just rag it around mate.
So it'll only come out on PERFECT days, and show days.

But if I was using as a everyday car, then I would use the simlur set up :D but might think about putting the ECU in, to save torque hitting the box too early
