Today I changed my ignition timing lamp arrived :D Thought would solve it, but it only made it run slightly better :(

When I'm driving at around 30 in 4th gear, the car judders quite a lot. It judders a fair bit in 3rd too.
If I rag it in 1st and 2nd then there's no juddering until I change up gear.

It also revs funny, the revs sometimes stutter, and when reving with the clutch down when driving it sometimes dosent rev very high.. :(

I got the igntion timing light to flash fastest when idling by turning the dizzy cap :S
Also, occasionally the car backfires. All sparkplugs and HT leads are in the right places.. :(

Video is uploading at the moment, will post as soon as it's done :)

The more detailed videos are in post 11. Help will be greatly appreciated :) :)

Sounds like what mine used to do. Would shake at low revs, if i revved hard in gears and then changed up it would shake too until i put my foot down.

Mine was misfiring due to a dodgy spark plug and also my points were in a pretty poor state.

New plugs, dizzy cap, points, condenser, coil, leads and it ran nicely again. Maybe your mixture needs adjusting aswell??

Im not certain though just sharing my experience, the experts will be along soon im sure (if they arent already here)

well that misfire doesnt help

with the juddering that bad i'd try not to drive it as you could end up doind some nasty damage,
change the plugs and leads and everything else to do with the ignition,

is it burning oil at all?

I don't think it's burning oil, I did a full service the other week with new oil/leads/plugs/airfilter/oilfilter ect..

Not driving it at the moment, using the bike instead until its sorted, but I need the car fixed for next week as I'm driving to the airport to go on holiday and the Mini is my only car :)

Got some photos of the sparkplugs, they seem greyish with a bit of pink? :/ Will upload in 2 mins :)

I'll add now that its a '81 Mini 1000 with a leaded head on, so I have to use the lead additive with fuel.

Im going to explain a little more what happened to me, i might start rambling so bare with me

My engine mounts had gone so it shook the engine quite badly everytime it 'misfired'

I did the mounts and then when it misfired it just made a small jolt instead of shaking itself to bits

So all i can say is that it may be a misfire but it might shake because some mounts or stabiliser bushes have gone, but im still learning myself so could be miles off the track
plugs look ok to me, i think greyish means a lean mixture but no sure on this, i understand browny is healthy(i think)

Just been out looking at the car again with Dad, plugs all have plenty of spark and it only shakes really when at around 30, seems fine when reving it high at a standstill :) got some more vids on the way :)

The light for the ignition timer is actually flashing really fast, although you can't see it very well on the camera :) :)
