It might be a 510 as fitted to the Mk.1 Cooper 'S'. That had a single ring, pin-drive oil pump, 1/2" wide lobes and no fuel pump lobe. A very nice cam if that's what it is. Recommended timing is 110 deg ATDC.

i've been looking around the internet for ages and all i can find is this............

2A948 cam (997 Cooper) which also has one narrow ring and is pin drive, but it is narrow lobe and has a fuel pump lobe.

right, i've found the answer, the only pin drive cams with the 1 ring identification mark is the AEG510 cooper 's' cam (no fuel pump lobe) or the 88G229/2A948/12A122 997 cooper camshaft (there were 3 part numbers for that cam)
therefore the cam that is in my old engine is a 997 cooper cam as it has the 1 ring ID mark and a fuel pump lobe........:-)

I wonder why a 997 Cooper cam would have a fuel pump lobe. They all had Lucas electric pumps. Maybe they used a blank cam from an engine with a mech pump.

not sure but someone said that the 997 cam was a good one to use for the 1098 engine, that ties in with the 12G295 head and 20 thou overbore that the engine had when we got the car.

The lobe on the 2A948 cam is because it was THE 'rally' cam for the Spridget - back in the day.  But virtually all cams have the fuel pump lobe - until relatively recently.

The same cam as fitted to the 997 was also fitted to the 1098's that had a mechanical pump, though they did come along later.  I'll look in my charts this arvo and see if I can ID the cam.

Never fitted to 1098 engine  - certainly not in Production.   Yes - fitted to 997.  Mystery is  - why did they not continue it in the 998 Cooper ??

That cam ID site doesn't seem to work now - anyone point to one that DOES work ??

Coming back to the OP's question, are the lobes 3/8" or 1/2"?

Yes, I stand corrected on that. They didn't continue them in to the 998 Coopers as they were fitted with a better Cylinder Head. The 998 Cooper Cam was also fitted to the 1098 (at least the ones we had here!).
