I've got a fast road mk1 and I'm buying bits ready for a winter job on the suspension, brakes etc due to itchiness to get back tinkering!

Anyone's views or personal experiences of these parts would be great! Mini spares is my preferred retailer but other recommendations will be considered!

Many thanks
Sam

why do you want rose jointed bottom arms - not needed

be carefull with buying rear cambe r brackets have had welds break
also you may run out of adjustment and have to do additional filing

i just modified the originals

Unless the car is just for racing it is inadvisable to fit rose-jointed suspension parts.
All you really need to improve the suspension are the following

1.5 degree negative camber lower arms
offset lower arm inner bushes (these allow minor adjustment of front camber).
New tie-bar rubbers
Adjustable front tie bars.

On the rear you can set the camber and toe-in (note: rear must toe-in by 1 mm to 1.5 mm) by simply filing the hole in the rad. arm bracket and welding a washer on to hold the setting once established. It's very simple to do.

Now, that's saved youa bit of cash and your Mini will be super to drive.

It is assumed that the front sub-frame is solidly bolted in with all-metal mountings.

Yes the subframe is solid mounted Thanks or the advice cooper man/racing bob also what dampers have you found to be of a reasonable quality? I've got standard trumpets and I'm changing my rubber doughnuts and dampers all round, don't want to it hi-Los because I like the standard. Just t dying to fill my winter jobs, buy something every month etc so it won't be as harsh in winter for money!

Many thanks Sam

Hi sparky, as your looking for jobs save some of your budget for a good look at the front arms and rear radius arm bearings plus track rod ends and all the associated bushes less glamorous jobs but make a noticeable difference to the cars performance.

Good to see your keeping the standard height set up, the car will still out perform most modern cars and significant lowering will be expensive and bone crushing hard to use if your roads are anywhere as bad as mine :)

Yes, I would advise having standard ride height. I also use SPAX dampers and they are good.
Good idea to check front swivel pins for excessive play and rear rad. arm bearings too - replace as necessary.
