Well, last Sunday was a sad day for me as I said goodbye to my Rover Mini Cooper Sportspack. :(

A guy from Brighton came and paid me what I was asking for the car and drove the car away. I could tell he was very enthusiastic about becoming the new owner of the car and i'm pleased that it is going to someone who will enjoy it.

I know that some Mini owners say that the only good reason to sell a Mini is to fund the purchase of another, but I genuinely don't know when I will be the owner of a Mini in the future. I certainly hope that one day I will sit behind the wheel of one again. Part of my skepticism about owning a classic Mini again is that when buying a 1999T Mini Cooper Sportspack in *mint* condition I feel that, in terms of Minis, I started quite high. I'm not sure if I would have the same enjoyment and have the same enthusiasm about an older, basic model.

I gave almost all of the Mini parts and manuals away to the new owner of my car, but when clearing out my garage this weekend I found one brand new, sealed clear headlight bulb with the blue tip and two new blue sidelights. If these are any good to anyone then drop me a PM and i'll send them on to you. I can't imagine they hold much value and i'd rather then went to someone that could make use of them.

Being Mini-less for the first time since 2005 is a sad feeling, but I hope i'll be back on these forums one day asking for help and advice as the assistance i've had has been invaluable at times. ;D

Some pics of it here and here

Cheers,
Picco

You say you started quite high, but look at it this way, if you go out and find yourself a proper rust bucket then you'll be able to completely start again and make it entirely your own!

Take a look at the pics.... being an Mpi rot box, it looks like he already owned a proper rust bucket.

But I do see where you're coming from, a sportspack is already styled and if you own one you generally tend to just keep it as a sportspack, otherwise you wouldn't have bought that model particular in the first place. To me part of the fun of classic mini ownership is taking something shabby and basic, picking a look for it and making it into something more desirable. So whilst I suppose I might be interested in turning an older basic model into a sportspack replica, I don't think I'd ever have any interest in buying a genuine one from the outset..... It's just a case of "Horses for courses" I suppose..... :-)

oh and to the OP...... you didn't really explain why you decided to sell up and leave classic mini ownership behind....... care to elaborate at all?

Is the new owner on this forum or another? Or are you friends with him on a social networking site? If so, it will be good to keep track of it in case they later decide to sell it and you are able to buy it back off him.

There is another thread on this forum where I deliberated over putting some money into the car (approximately £4,000). I felt that I couldn't justify putting that sort of cash into the car and I don't have the ability to do a DIY job.

I'd like to point out that one thing that my MPi wasn't was a rustbox. We all know Minis rust but there's life in that car yet.

I don't have the new owner on Facebook/Twitter (couldn't find him). But the registration is T925 ARO if anyone lives in and around the Brighton area.
