Hi,

I have a problem with my mini, The top mount/stabiliser (the one that bolts to below the two master cylinders and to the engine block) bushes the engine side wore out, assuming that it was just age I bought a new set of polythingys to go in there, but these only lasted three weeks tops!!

here is a pic of the new bushes and the ones/bits I took out

I thought that my stabiliser arm may have been warn a bit causing the play with the bush, so I wrapped some tape around it to make sure that it was a tight fit into the arm, but about 3 weeks later . . . . It has eaten another set of bushes!!!

Strangely it only seems to eat them at the engine end. So what do I do now? I would change the bushes again but it isn't really solving the problem, does anyone know what is this mischief happening with my mini???

Thanks, Tom.

I think the cause is simple, the engine block is too hot for poly bushes. In any case, poly in both ends of the steady bar is considered to be too stiff, most people use rubber in one end for that reason. Try a set of rubbers in the engine end.

You can fine tune the stiffness to a certain extent by fitting either the normal plain spacer or the metal or plastic cones, supplied with some aftermarket bushes, which expand the rubber for a tighter fit.

Do you have the washer between the arm and the engine, causing the bush to rub against the block, to cause premature wear

I didnt have a washer in there at first but have since fitted one on the second set of bushes, I have a rubber mount somewhere I will fit and see how it goes,

Thanks for the help

Tom :)
