Pretty sure the bmc garage manual I have says a full strip and inspection at 80k

My old 998 did about 120k before the compression started to drop.

I'd say between 70-100k

Obviously there will be circumstances that will make it go either side of that.

My mini had 40ish thousand miles on it and the engine was knackered.

I fitted a £50 75k engine and it ran flawlessly!! Most reliable the car ever was.

Haynes says a rebuild at 80k.

I've stripped my MPi engine at 74K. I'd did run great and you wouldn't think there was a problem, but the crank's pretty worn and the cam followers were FUBUR.

as said before it all depends on how its driven but mini engines need alot of love such as replacing the rubber seal between the block and clutch, replaced gaskets, cam followers, and then the usual spark plugs, oil, oil filter, etc as long as you keep it loved it can last for aaaaaages.

my mpi is just shy of 70k its at about 69,8xx k runs 'smooth as a hand in a velvet glove'- bon scott quote, but its still a baby in terms of age, obvisouly oil plays a huge factor and how many times you change it. I generally say the more changes the better, once a month, 2 or 3 months is a good way to go and any shorter than that is a bonus. You could change it every day if you wanted, thats abit extream like haha but ya know

Look after it well enough no reason why you cant get well over 200k if its a good engine to start with, I saw a picture of a 60s cooper with 250k on the engine and it had never been rebuilt

I found it pretty hard to believe and still do, but I cant prove it wrong or right as it was only a picture from a show with a caption at the side, but id like to think it had just so its one up for the mighty mini lol

I mean its gotta have had gaskets and seals, got me curious this thread so I googled highest ever engine mileage on record comes up some guy has this volvo with over 2.6 million miles on it i mean that guy must have lived in the car makes me wonder if he drove it round the house, be funny if he had a k&n filter on wonder if theyd give him 2 filters for free

well it does them good to get a re-fresh dont it , it might not be true like but i always want these things to be true even if i dont think they are

I think if you keep your mini long enough a rebuild is invertible at some point but its all part and parcel of having it i suppose, I think its great that we can rebuild them and keep them going its not as easy as that with modern cars now

it costs so much money to do a modern car due to complex design

i must be doing mine wrong so far its not even finished being welded and cost neerly 5 grand!!!!!!! haha

i taught myself how to work on minis but im very jack of all trades i can learn practical things extremely fast its theoretical things that i lack in such as my bad punctuation abilities,

but then again i have a guy working on mine now while i work and live on a golf course in the country free of charge :P haha such an easy life being 21
