How long is a piece of string?

It depends on many factors including how often it was serviced, driving style, etc etc etc

They'll last untill your wallet runs dry, but im guessing you mean without fixing the actual engine, by just giving it a service, and in that sense, it'll mainly depend on how you drive, you could easily blow an engine after 10k miles or you could make one last 210k, it's down to you mainly

Usually about 100k driven very well.

After this they get smokey and tired.

They do keep on going for quite bit longer afterwards.

Mine's just had a head rebuild (guides severely worn) at 80k. The bottom end's still going strong though, bores look as good as new.

Wear is faster when they're cold, 'n Minis tended to do more short journeys. The other thing is how many engine revs you do to a mile, later Minis with taller diffs will fair better.

And those with 2.7 diffs that never go very 3k, that must be very good for engine life.

Im sure I read somewhere that the design life of the engine was 80,000 miles? Mines done very nearly 100k and Id happily drive it anywhere, for any length of time. Only let me down once in 30,000 miles and the one time was my fault :D

Mines done 135K, runs quiet, no smoke, uses hardly a drop of oil and the oil light goes out straight away. Considering that the last two owners at least drove it like a rental that's got to be a miracle :D

Either that or it's already been apart at some point lol

I'm just short of 100k, and its reliable. Think it's pining for a rebuild though, since it's developed a knock in the last 2k. Goes away when warm though, so I reckon I could get another 10k out of it. It's getting rebuilt though, with go-faster bits in.

130k on a '91 carb Cooper and it's still going, just a bit flat at times.
