I have a 1992 British Open Classic, and have read online that some 10" wheels will fit over the later style discs (8.4's?) They are the standard brakes on my car and I believe the BOC was based on the mayfair if that helps.

Does anyone have any experience of this or know of wheels that will fit over the brakes? I can't really justify the brake conversion just yet.

no 10 inch wheels will fit over your brakes

but you can fit some 10 inch wheels outside of the brakes either with a big spacer of wheels with a large off set

handling and bearings may suffer

In that case thats a no-go then. Know of any 12x6 'reverse' style wheels at all? they're the look i want but I want wider than the standard 12x5 minilites :(

You will have to get the 7.9 inch brake conversion kit for mini spares or mini sport
Mrk 2 cooper s brakes
As far as i know you can get 1s to fit 8.4 discs but these have a stupid off set and they sit infornt of the brake not around them as they should

If they're gonna put excess stress on my wheel bearings and stuff I don't fancy it, I want some nice, fairly deep wheels without putting too much stress on them and without compromising the handling too much :(

Handling's just fine, and they put similar stress on the hubs as your run of the mill 13x7's. Upside is they look great and weigh barely anything.
As long as your mini is well maintained they will not pose a problem.

Yeah I really thought hard about these wheels. I wanted 10" wheels which would fill my arches. The minispeed ones seemed to fulfill my need and save me money on a brake conversion.

What swung me though was the width of the wheels, at 5" wide almost all of the wheel protrudes outside the car.

Paddy wait and change the brakes, if you go for 12's when you want 10's you will only regret it and end up spending more money in the end.

Indeed, it would be a while now anyways as I've decided I'm going to save this year and come january when my insurance runs out, either buy another mini or start a restoration on this one. I know already it needs full new sills and possibly flooring too, so I'm going to seal it as best as possible and run it for the year until I can afford to repair or replace it. :(

but wouldn't some of a 7 inch wide wheel be set inside the brakes with only the extra bit sticking out ?

i have had 2 sets of these from minispeed, and i can only say good things about them.

i have a set of 6x10 minilights on my current mini and they dont stick out any more than those ones do.

my dad has got the one set of my minispeed wheels on his car and has had no wheel bearing or balljoint issues in 4 years, i used the car with the other set on for track days and can honestly say it didnt suffer any handing issues either.

the only problem is, im pretty sure these wheels havnt been available for some time now, last time i enquired about getting a third set they stopped being able to get them (they are imported from japan)
