Yea, Ultralites, white lower flash (same as green car) and dropped a touch with original grille and bumbers - nice car

Wonder why such an original looking car ended up with the orange bling?

We thought exactly the same to be honest, unless they were planning on doing something with it involving the 'orange bling' then decided against it?

Who knows, either way they're long gone! :D

How about a 1500 Cortina GT engine bored to 1650 with a pair of 40 DCOE Webers, a fully flowed head, GT manifold and a Cosworth A2 cam? Add a 2000E gearbox and a 4.1:1 final drive ratio using the Anglia drive shafts/axle and it will be fantastic. You would have around 110 bhp. It would also be reliable and a great road car too.

Sounds almost tempting to get one in the near future... it is a lovely car! Free tax and a possible no MOT soon as well? :shifty:

What's it like to get hold of the engine etc?

It's certainly easier to get hold of the 1500cc Ford Cortina/Capri/Corsair engines than a Cooper 'S' engine these days.
They are a lovely engine with a 5-bearing crank and a 'square' bore/stroke ratio. The gearbox to have is the Corsair 2000E one as the gear ratios are superb. If a 'hot' cam and twin 40 DCOE Webers are used a low final drive is needed and the 4.1:1 out of the Anglia 997/1200 would be ideal. Compared to a Mini the Ford is just so easy to work on so long as the base car is the one which had the 997 engine rather than the earlier 1172 side-valve unit.
The suspension is easy to sort as inserts can be fitted to the original struts and higher-rate coil springs will go on the front. On the rear a set of Escort Van leaf springs with telescopic dampers would be easy to engineer to fit.
You know, built like that it would have the performance of the old Escort Twin-Cam. Wow, quicker than a Cooper 'S'.
I'm almost tempted to build one myself!
