"Carcoon"! Got one for my motorbike, but really only for long term storage, preferably undercover. I want to drive the car!

What about one of these?
http://www.foldingga...dinggarages.htm

I managed to insure one of my cars on the drive using one of these via Classicline, I also have a car in a Carcoon which although are very good are a pain if you want to use it on a regular basis!

Completely mis-read that URL at first. I was shocked and appalled!

Laughed a bit though.

Glad I wasn't the only one to notice....!.

I can't believe someone did this to a Mini :( - it's sad really.

Would your neighbours notice you running a concrete saw or a small jackhammer? Take out the kerb yourself!

I'm a builder myself, so I could do it, but it's a lot of hard work and kerbs need to be lowered, not just removed. Also re-profiling the pavement and tarmacing. Would be just my luck to do all that and get in trouble with the council for not using an approved and licensed contractor. As I will have to get out of the car to open gates every time I go in or out, I'll probably make up some temporary ramps to put down and take them up after.

Oh......... My.......God....... I was on holiday when this was posted and only just seen it resurface

I am so sorry for you Mister Bridger. I've just seen the photo you took when you went to see it and I actually had goosebumps appear, that's truly awful

It's one thing to steal to order - I'm most definately NOT justifying it but at least you know the car is still alive and kicking and being used, possibly by someone who has no idea the sordid appearence of the car they just bought, but the car is still being loved. Stolen and torched? That's just THE most criminal thing I recon. I guess they were trying to cover their prints, but if they'd have stolen it and the car had been recovered, prints being recovered from the car or not, you would have had your baby back if you'd have been lucky.

It's such a hugely growing fear of mine. I don't live in a great area I've always known that. I had major issues finding someone to insure me, not because of the mods my baby has or me, but cause of my post code. I checked with the refusals and they said they would refuse even if un-modded. I'd already bought her by then so it was too late (I've never, ever had insurance problems before so it never entered my head that I would have problems!)

I have a driveway, but let's face it, that's not safe. I can block her up the drive at night with my daily car but she's exposed during the day. I don't want a garage at the mo in the garden as I just had it landscaped last year, but am suddenly considering the potential of changing the back fencing to get her in the back garden. That's pretty secure and the alley behind us is only accessable via a locked gate.

I've recently been *almost* glad that my friend has her locked in his garage while he works on her mechanics for me as I know she's so much safer there. But then, that's not the point of owning one right... to have her sat in a friend's garage...

Was gonna take part in delivering my daughter to her prom in July, Italian job style, with a white and a blue Mini for two of her friends but that's now going to have to be re-thought

Another local red Mini owner MUST and WILL come to your rescue on this one surely...
(anyone volunteered yet ???)

I've bought another mk1 and it's red, so that's covered. (Will post some pics up later). Unfortunately the white one has dropped out due to the silly cow who owns it putting water in the engine not the rad! Did start another thread on this but if anyone has a white Mini and is available on July6th in Hastings area.........

Very sorry to hear about your ordeal. Like others I don't understand why they would do it. But rather than cutting their hands off or killing them or any other morbid suggestions, if people were to just bring up their kids with more respect for other people and their property then this country would not have problems with violence, theft, murder, rape etc. Glad to hear you have another one and I hope the insurance company pays up and doesn't put up your premium too much.

Still not heard anything from insurance, other than the renewal premium going up from £75 to...........£90! Assuming they do pay out as they should it's gonna take them a long time to recoop their losses with that extra £15 a year.

Did you get hold of a white car for the convoy Mister Bridger? If a white sheet would do to cover my Mini's colour I'd be happy to help.. However I guess a rumbling ghost isn't *quite* the effect you were after...!

Insurance company have been in touch and they are paying out the agreed value of £4k + £100 for personal effects. Should really have been insured for more but that's my fault for not keeping in touch with rising values. They have also agreed to let me have the car back for salvage at no cost but I'm sorry to have to inform the couple of people who pm'd me that they will want the shell back for disposal after I've finished stripping it. Going to look at the white Mini later. Suspect it will need a whole engine and box but might still be a good prospect for the right money.
