Thanks, but actually I don't know what most of those words mean!

Got any plans on how to stop the little b******s from doing it again to your new acquisition?

My house is on a corner plot and I could make access to the back garden via a pair of lockable bi-fold gates, and create a parking bay on the lawn. Garden is tiny and this will take up a good portion of it, but it's a bit less grass to mow!

What a horrible thing to happen. Is there no way the shell can be saved with another roof panel ? Hope things work out for you.

I'd love to be proved wrong, but I'll be surprised if they offer you salvage.

Can an insurance company deny that if it's not stated in writing on the contract?

I don't know to be honest, but they have responsibility for categorising write-offs, and I can see how they could argue they can honour their contract with you solely with a payout, as they would if it was stolen & never recovered. My reasoning is that they'd look on it as a "duty of care" with it being impossible to evaluate how the heat has effected the structural integrity of the shell and handling the fire damaged materials potentially presenting a health hazard. That's means & motive, and they'd potentially have a lot to lose and very little to gain.

Right, reported the loss and the guy doesn't seem to think it will be a problem my retaining the car for salvage, as it's on a classic car policy (his words). The problem I am going to have is that they don't want to insure the replacement car if it's kept on a driveway, even behind locked gates as there is now a record of theft from driveway here. I can totally see their point but unfortunately their system won't differentiate between the drive in front of the garage and a separate one behind locked gates, so I will have to change insurerers and try to find one who will cover it there.

Hahahaha!just spoken to highways agency about having a dropped kerb for the access to the new driveway - £200 just to get them to think about it, then between £2000 and £6000 to get an approved contractor to do the work!

Actually gasped at the pics, very sorry sight :(
It just annoys me how one persons pride and joy is their joke for a few hours. How devastate would they be if someone did this to them?

don't see how the police can't treat this as serious. The police will let them off lightly then wonder why they've gone and done it again? Police are almost as stupid and the tw@ts that did it.

Whilst I understand your anger are the Police really almost as stupid? If caught who punishes them? It ain't the police mate blame the courts. Also if you think this sought of crime is not treated as serious then I would maybe think you are as stupid as the people that did it.

I am upset as the next person on here it looked stunning before buddy.

Pleased it looks like I'll be proved wrong, it just shows what a haphazard system you get when you regulate through private enterprise. But then, if it was a government department a Cat A or B on the altar of H&S would be more of a certainty.

Don't know Mr Bridger's circumstances, but if he has an "Aunt Nellie" who'd qualify for mobility assistance; it might be possible to get some of the costs to drop the curb deferred.
