I think in 1989 Rover made the existing flame red colour more vibrant for the flame red edition released in that year. (hence the 89 flame red) so if it is that edition then get the 89, but i do think that all cars after '89 would be painted in 89 flame red but I'm not sure so wait and check

There was a Flame Red introduced with the launch of the Mk3 minis back in '69/'70, its code is BLVC61, (CMB).

Maybe the Rover Flame Red did change after 1989 like marko said. Seems a likely thing if two Rover Flames are listed.

They are different. I know 90's cars use the '89 flame red, so I'd guess it's '89 onwards for that version.

I'm really confused by this too. The colours that come out of halfords appear the same whether 89 or not!!

My '93 Italian Job is Flame Red, I have sprayed my front wing with a layer of 89 then a layer of normal flame red and I can't see a difference. Does lacquer darken the paint? As it seems it's a bit too light compared to the rest of the car!

Cheers

Theres a couple of shades of flame red. I'd go and get the colour matched to the car, its the only way to be sure.

if you paint ici paint its blue shade cof for most of the coopers and no1 shade for a sprite

I brought the two colours for a 1991 studio 2 and the 'Flame Red' was the right one not the '89
